This is a great book for teen-age kids to learn programming. It goes just at the right pace and adds just enough excitement to keep them interested all along the way.

Reasonable Java Primer with Problematic Examples
This is a “Kids Coding Workbook” with a reasonable overview of the basic structure and practice of Java. The text is clear and concise. However, it isn’t so much a kids book as a basic workbook for beginners. Examples include housing payment calculator and Russian roulette simulator. That is either some lazy porting from other material or I need to call child services.
