Not So Easy To Follow
My son has dabbled in coding for a while, but the language of this text vexed him as he tried to follow the direct instructions laying out the foundation for switching. While not lost for long, I think a clearer definition of kids should be defined for the user. Most ten year olds don’t understand many of the terms used without some additional aids.

Good homeschool resource – but requires some previous knowledge
This book is more for tweens and up than for kids, but is a good resource for learning to code with C++. Parents with prior computing experience can easily use this book to help their 12+ child learn to code. After some explanation of C++, your child writes their first program on page 28. Each chapter thereafter has real coding. I like that it is a hands-on book. However, if you don’t have any computer coding experience, the terminology might trip you up. Not great for beginners.

Not for kids, very poorly formatted
After reading (or trying to read) through this book and noticing that the author did not put his/her name to it, I did some checking on the âPublisherââ¦I came to find out this company calls itself a âself-publishingâ publisher. Thatâs an oxymoron! If you are a Publisher, you arenât self-publishing, you are in fact publishing the work of othersâ¦and you would have them put their name to their work. Otherwise, you are an author trying to pass off that you are a publisherâ¦which makes you a vanity press. Someone who poses as a publisher to self-publish their own books.Discovering this information explained so much about this book, itâs self-published and it shows.Yes, that sounds crabby of me I know. But hereâs why I say this, I work with authors and publishers alike as a professional graphic artist, book formatter, and application developer. As a professional I would never allow a book to go live looking like this and no publisher I work with would allow this either; the formatting of this book makes it very difficult to follow, because everything runs together. This is amateur formatting at its worst. Now, I donât doubt that the author may know a bit about what they are talking about here with this book for kids on C++, I nodded along to some of what I read; Iâm very familiar with programming languages. BUT, this book is absolutely not formatted as though it is supposed to be for kids. This book is going to lose kidsâ¦..FAST!In this book the author, who I will assume formatted this, uses justified alignment for everything, which causes everything to run together and it makes so much of the text look off, stretched out, and awkward. There is no spacing between sub-chapters, and there are lines added in for other sub-chapters that make no sense with text butted up against themâ¦.this looks HORRIBLE. There are no chapter indentions, the graphics with coding examples are truly bad to look at and other examples arenât even clear, graphics should be crisp, clear and consistentâ¦there should be no gradient behind them. There is inconsistent spacing throughout the book between items. Iâm going to stop hereâ¦because, I honestly could keep the list going.A book for kids should be interesting to look at, it should be laid out so that it is easy to read, easy to find your place in, with simple graphics for reference and plenty of spacing between items. The lessons that could be taken from this book get lost in really bad formatting. I beg you, find someone who actually knows how to format a book and ask for helpâ¦please! As this books stands right now, there is no way Iâd recommend it to my students in my app development class. I canât even give it 1 starâ¦but I have to.

Depends on how you define “Kids”… But not for beginner’s either.
The book title and cover imply that you’ll be able to teach kids how to code. By kids, you might think that it is ages 10 and under. The book itself says it is intended for persons around age 12, but really, this book is way more advanced and not really for kids or even beginning programmers at all. It attempts to define a lot of code jargon, but the problem is that is uses other code jargon to do so. For example, in the very first chapter, here is an excerpt:”””Features of this IDE:â GCC-based compilers, such as Cygwin, MinGW, and others, are supported by Dev-C++. If we already have a compiler on our PC, we may either install a Dev-C++ IDE with the compiler integrated or just an IDE.â With this IDE, we may use integrated debugging (using GDB). We can use the debugger to conduct all of the standard debugging actions on the source code””””Is a kid who has never programmer before going to understand all these terms or references? Even a teenager who hasn’t programmed before would have trouble with this book I think. That said, the content in the book is spot on for learning C++ if you already have a good working knowledge of how to program. Honestly, this book would do better with a rebranded title and cover– The information is good, but it is going to cause kids a lot of trouble to understand unless they’ve already been hacking away in a terminal for 5+ years.

Has some decent info – but not presented the most effectively
The formatting was a little hard to follow. The book did an ok job at the beginning of setting the stage for what C++ was.

Educational
I’m a huge fan of STEM, especially for girls. The title is a little misleading. This would be great for children who’s parents have some working knowledge of coding or who can understand it enough to teach their child. It’s basically a textbook and most of the information is lower college level information.

Good guide-not just for kids
This is a good intro for C, C++, and programming in general. Not just for kids. It assumes computer literacy though.

Expected
It’s not necessarily kid friendly, but it’s pretty straight to the point and exactly what I would imagine this book to be
