Outdoor leader’s review below! TL;dr: This tent’s a solid choice, with a few things to note
If youâre in the market for a roomy, budget-friendly tent from a solid brand, the Coleman XL is definitely worth considering. As someone who has led plenty of group and personal camping trips over the years, Iâve had my fair share of experiences with tents, and this one holds its own pretty well for the price. I had a lot to say, so I’ve broken this down into a few categories, and hopefully you can find the parts that matter most to you quickly!Size & SetupFirst off, this tent is big. Coleman claims it can fit three queen-sized airbeds, and technically it does, but if you want any room to move around or stash your gear, Iâd recommend sticking with two queen beds at most. Otherwise, youâre looking at wall-to-wall mattresses, which isnât ideal unless you love playing an indoor game of Twister while camping. The headroom is excellentâat 6â tall, I can stand up and move around without constantly ducking or feeling claustrophobic. That nearly vertical wall design really makes a difference when it comes to usable space. Now, about the setup time: under 5 minutes is technically possible, but not for your first few tries. Realistically, youâll want to budget about 15 minutes for both setup and takedown while you get used to it. The tent has pre-attached poles, which is great, but thereâs definitely a specific rhythm to setting this up efficiently. After a couple of practice runs, though, it becomes pretty straightforward.Weather Resistance & DurabilityOne of the standout features here is Colemanâs WeatherTec system. The tub-style floor, welded corners, and inverted/taped seams do a solid job at keeping rain out under light to moderate conditions. However, the rainfly isnât full coverage, which means if youâre dealing with strong wind-driven rain or a serious storm, the tent walls could get wet and potentially leak. Itâs great for mild to moderate weather, but I wouldnât take this tent out in a torrential downpour unless youâre prepared for a little extra water management.Speaking of wind, the frame is rated to withstand up to 35 mph winds. Thatâs reassuring, but personally, anything over 15-20 mph will make the tent feel like itâs getting whipped around pretty hard. Itâs good to know the structure holds up, but Iâd avoid camping in super gusty conditions if possible. The fiberglass poles are standard for tents in this price range, but theyâre not as tough or flexible as aluminum poles. They can splinter or shatter if stressed too much, so I always recommend carrying some duct tape and a tent pole repair kit just in case. Itâs a precaution Iâd take with pretty much any large tent in this price category.Cool Features I’m Glad It HasThe wide door design is a fantastic feature. Getting airbeds, gear, or just yourself in and out of the tent is easy, which is a relief when youâre setting up camp or making late-night bathroom runs. The large door awnings are another nice touchâthey add a bit more weather protection and help with airflow. Is It Worth It & What It’s Best ForOverall, the Coleman XL offers a lot of space, decent weather resistance, and good headroom for a very reasonable price. Itâs great for family trips, small group camping, or anyone looking for a comfortable tent without breaking the bank. Just be prepared for a short learning curve on setup, pack some repair supplies as a precaution, and donât push it too hard in extreme weather. For mild to moderate camping adventures, this tent is a solid pick that balances size, features, and affordability. Coleman remains a trusted brand for a reason, and this tent proves it.

Quality Tent From Coleman
The Skydome XL tent is perfect for our family of six. I really appreciate the carrying case the tent arrived in and how easy it is to maneuver. The materials have a durability I’ve come to expect from this brand. Assembly of the tent is just as simple as it was decades ago, although 5 minutes may not be enough time for most people at first. We are looking forward to putting the weatherproofing of the tent to the test, but it is an otherwise great product we hope to enjoy for years to come!

Nice tent for our family of 5!
Another Coleman product for the win! We have used this brand for years and are never disappointed with their products. This tent is perfect for my family of 5. It was easy to set up and take down. It’s well made and sturdy when up. Has plenty of space inside to fit all of us no problem with our air mattresses and belongings. We’ve used it on a recent quick camping trip and it worked great. It even did well in the rain and kept us dry inside, and kept bugs out. We are happy with it and will be using it a lot this Summer.

Another Solid Product
As the headline says, this is another good product from this company! We’ve been buying their products for decades and they rarely disappoint. This tent is easy to set up and includes a snug carrying case. Easy to store as well. After a few uses, I have zero complains. Excellent value for those of you out there that just want a tent for fun around the homestead, or more serious folks who are camping. Enjoy!

Clip broke on first setup, good size tent, not difficult to setup
It will take more than 5 minutes to setup for one person. The first thing I didn’t like was when I was putting one of the clips onto the pole, it snapped/broke very easily (see picture). I was still able to pitch the tent and overall it was easy to setup. It comes with already attached poles which you need to pay attention to when unpacking for the first time so you can repack it easier. The tent hight in the very center touches the top of my head when standing (I am 6ft tall). There’s plenty of built in space for items. It took me around 10-15 minutes to setup, but I think setting up/tearing down I should get it down to 5 minutes by myself. It does not come with a footprint so you’ll have to buy one separately. I was able to tear it back down and put it back into the bag with relative ease. The reason I give it 3 stars is because the clip broke so easily on a brand new tent. This tent is good for those who like a lot of internal space. I can setup two queen size air mattresses. What they can do better is make stronger clips, make it a little taller, and provide a footprint. I’m might keep this as a backup tent in case my main tent has any issues.

Awesome tent
Roomy tent, easy to put together and take down. Haven’t had it in any adverse weather yet, but it seems like it would hold up well to rain. Definitely recommend.

Nice Spacious Family-Sized Tent
This family-sized spacious tent from Coleman has exceeded my expectations. This is a nice option for those looking to bring their family or group on an outdoors adventure. I’m used to solo moto camping and often use small 1-2 person tents. This felt like living in a veritable palace. The tent appears well-constructed and solid. It was fairly easy to get up and pack up. It hasn’t experienced harsh weather yet, but performed well in the cold (but hasn’t been used in extreme cold). The design is nice and we experienced no issues. Time will tell, but I’ve good feelings about this (fingers crossed). Hopefully, we’ll be making a lot of good memories. All in all, I’m pleased with this tent. Should my experience with it change in the future, the review will be updated.
