    Improved Curling Iron? Maybe!
As a “Valuista” (one who likes good value for their money), my reviews are always impartial and as accurate as possible. This product was tested by me, my daughter, and some friends with varying types of hair, very long and baby fine, long and wavy, medium length and thick, short with bangs, etc. PROS: 1. All agreed that there’s less possibility of burns to the fingers and less likelihood of damaging your hair using this product. 2. Having a separate setting for heat and another for time was better for finding the exact combination needed to “set” the curl. It makes good sense especially for delicate, fine, thin hair that could be easily damaged. 3. It takes getting used to it, but it worked on most lengths; it’s not appropriate for short hair and bangs. 4. The unit is relatively lightweight for its size, and seems sturdy and well-made. CONS: 1. It didn’t work on all lengths hair. Long was fine, medium was O.K. but short hair didn’t work. Having the safety guard means you can’t begin the curl near the scalp; the hair must reach far enough to go through the slot in the safety guard and wrap around the inner heated rod. 2. The only part of the hair that gets curled is the lower part. Several women wanted to “lift” the hair a little nearer to the roots to give it more body, but it wasn’t possible. 3. Using this curling iron is a little trickier than the traditional kind. Hair must be divided evenly into small bundles, then inserted into the safety guard’s slot while holding both the hair and the curling iron in a vertical position. 4. Curling took longer than a traditional iron. 5. Several of us thought the learning curve was a little steep. We spent over an hour practicing before we got the settings and the trick of holding hair and curling iron vertically at the same time, but, on the other hand, all agreed that any new skill takes practice. 5. Finding the right settings was a matter of “trial and horror.” We fiddled with many combinations of heat and time to find the best one for our hair. Maybe using low, medium, and high for heat instead of degrees, and a few basic settings for time, would be less confusing, easier to remember, and faster to use. However, to be fair, you usually only have to fiddle with the settings at the beginning. 6. We assumed the “default” settings (the heat and time that’s selected when you turn it on) would be the lowest combination of both heat and time, but we were wrong. When first turned on, it defaults to a middle setting. We think it might be a problem if you forget to change it to your personal settings. For example, theoretically, if you need the lowest settings because you have fine hair, you might forget to change them from the “default” and damage your hair. FINAL REVIEW: This is one of those products that’s mostly a matter of personal choice. If it works for your hair, it’s a good value, but if it doesn’t, it’s not. Frankly, we were divided. Half the women didn’t think they were ready to give up their traditional curling irons. The other half loved the safety features and wide range of settings, so they liked this product. I felt safety was so important that I rated it a little higher than it might deserve.

Although it curls well, it probably won’t be my tool of choice…
I am sure that this is probably just a “me” thing, but I feel like this hair curler actually takes me more time to learn and use efficiently versus just using my old methods that I am already familiar with. I find this a little awkward to get my hair into the correct position to be wrapped up into the curler. I also struggled some with switching back and forth between the left and right sides and trying to figure out my hand and hair positions for each side. The curler itself DOES WORK! And it curls very well, if used correctly. So I want to be sure to give it credit where credit is due! I just personally find it to be a little more fiddly to work with than using my old iron. So for me, it is probably just a learning curve that I need to get past, and it is very possible that using it will come more naturally to others. The instructions themselves are pretty clear, so that’s a pro. Ultimately, while I am not yet sure that it is the best tool for me, I would say that it is definitely worth a try if you are curious and interested!

    Learning curve
This automatic curling iron has a serious learning curve. I had to watch a few videos to really get the hang of it. I finally did, though, about halfway through my head, so the right side of my head looked a lot different than the left by the time I was done. The hardest part of it was me figuring out how to insert my hair into the curling iron so it would grab it just from one side. I ended up having to blindly feel with my fingers to insert my hair and hope for the best. What allowed me to do that was the outside shell doesn’t get to a “too hot to touch” level of hot, and neither does the top of the inside cylinder piece. Honestly, I found it to be quite fun once I was able to figure it out! Incredibly frustrating before then, but fun afterwards. It truly doesn’t allow you to curl more than a small strand at a time. My hair is fairly straight but thick, so it look a little bit of time to curl my entire head, but probably not much more (if any) than it takes to curl with a regular curling iron. There are 4 levels of temperature: 320, 356, 392, and 428 fahrenheit. Pressing the power button changes between the temperature levels, and it heats really quickly. There’s also a timer that ranges from 12-19 seconds, so once you stop spinning your hair into the curler, it’ll start the timer and beep after it’s been whatever time you set it to. The curler spins in two different directions, which is honestly super helpful for me. When using a manual curling iron, it takes way too much of my brain power to think, “How do I get these curls to face AWAY from my face?”I did have a chance to try out the safety feature as I was trying to figure out how to use this thing. I’m guessing my hair wound around both sides of the internal cylinder, versus starting on just one side. Regardless of what happened, all of a sudden the entire thing just shut down. Literally powered down. My hair still slipped out easily, which is what I was incredibly worried about, honestly. Asking a styling tool to grab your hair, spin it in circles, and let go? I was worried I was asking too much, but the safety feature does work and it doesn’t eat your hair. The entire tool is incredibly lightweight, which is surprising for how big it is. The cord is on a 360-degree swivel and moves so easily. I never once became aware of the cord while I was fussing with figuring out how this thing worked. The one thing I should mentioned is that you don’t get any volume at the base of your scalp with this curling iron. It’s not a deal break for me, but it might be for some people. I can get the curl to start at the top of my ears, but that’s about as high as I could get it to go. It curls hair into tight curls that, in my hair at least, really loosen up once I run my fingers through them a few times. Beautiful.
