A treasure trove of tales, poems, and knowledge on the brainy, black-feathered hen that’s wealthy in perception and humor.
This revised and expanded version of Candace Savage’s best-selling e book about ravens and crows is enhanced by extra work, drawings, and pictures, in addition to an enchanting collection of first-person tales and poems about outstanding encounters with crows. In a single story, a pack of crows brilliantly thwarts an assault by a Golden Eagle; in one other, a mischievous crow rescues the writer from grief. And in a 3rd piece, after nursing a battered child crow again to well being till it flies off with different crows, Louise Erdrich hauntingly describes her altered consciousness as she listens for the “darkish snigger” of crows whereas she works.
Based mostly on twenty years of audacious analysis by scientists world wide, the e book additionally gives an unprecedented, evidence-based glimpse into corvids’ mental, social, and emotional lives. However whether or not seen by way of the lens of science, delusion, or on a regular basis expertise, the result’s at all times the identical. These birds are so good—and so mysterious—they take your breath away.

Nancy Farley –
Truly enjoyable
This book is a blend of myth, art and science seamlessly blended. A truly enjoyable read that is likely to stay with me a long time.
The Butcher –
Very good and informative.
Have had these wonderful birds in my yard for many years, but never had any personal interactions. They are weary of humans but accept our feeding. This was great for information and stories of other people’s dealings with these birds.
MillstoneyWay –
a delightful compendium on the crow
This book contains a wide array of anecdotes, poems, and scientific observations about corvids and particularly crows and ravens. It reaches no conclusions but merely presents the stories and observations as they were found. A wonderful read.

A highly educational as well as entertaining collection of scientific finds, poetry, lyrics, anecdotes and illustrations. I put my fingers on pretty much anything about crows and ravens. This one went straight to my personal Top-read-about-corvids-list. Great gift for anyone who is in love with these beautiful, fascinating birds.
Cassandra –
great reading, though a bit of a surprise in the book structure. New readers may be surprised as I was when a section may be used as a separator for specialized information (?) or just to have a diversified book structure. It is interesting, but distracting when immersed in the contents to have to skip several pages to find the continuation of the author’s excellent presentation of very interesting information. Please tell publisher/book contents designer.. the fancy construction of information IS NOT necessary. The book has super interesting material in it. YEA CROWS. very intelligent.
