    Simply written, offers “tools”
This book is so simply written, yet full of wonderful snippets to help the reader with family-related issues that we need. The simple way this book has been written is beneficial because it helps us to grasp the knowledge and wisdom being shared in the pages. The author also offers practical guidelines (tools) designed to help us move forward, whatever that may look like to each of us. Knowing that our learned ways and behaviors follow us into our adult relationships, I feel that this book is a must have on everyone’s book shelf. Relationships are not easy. People can be complex.
Also, the exercises provided are helpful because they invite us to dive deeper. In doing the exercises provided you may discover something about yourself and your family member(s) that could be an “aha!” moment.
Of course, having a therapist alongside your journey to reclaiming your true self could be a wise decision, if that’s something you need.
We were not responsible for what happened to us, but we are responsible for our own healing. If you are ready to or are already on your healing journey of re-discovering your Self, then this book is necessary.

Great book / Detailed review below
I recently bought a copy of “A Guide to Managing Unhealthy Relationships, Drama-Free” by Nedra Glover Tawwab and I have to say, it has been a game changer for me. As someone who has struggled with unhealthy relationships with family drama in the past, this book was just what I needed to help me navigate these situations in a healthy and productive way.
What I love most about this book is how practical it is. Tawwab provides actionable tips and strategies for dealing with toxic people, setting boundaries, and communicating effectively. Her advice is clear, concise, and easy to implement, which is so refreshing compared to other self-help books that can feel overwhelming and abstract.
Overall, I am so grateful to Nedra Glover Tawwab for writing this book. It has truly helped me transform my relationships with my family and live a more drama-free life. If you’re looking to improve your sibling-parental relationships and create healthier boundaries, I highly recommend picking up a copy of “A Guide to Managing Unhealthy Relationships, Drama-Free.” You won’t regret it!

A must-read for navigating difficult family relationships
In Nedra Glover Tawwab’s new book, she takes her work on boundaries to the next step: how to maintain relationships with people in our lives with whom we have difficult relationships. The premise of the book is that very often, our boundaries are not because we want to end relationships with people in our lives, but that we want to find ways to keep those relationships without doing harm to ourselves.
In her practical voice, she offers examples of situations where this is necessary or important, and tips for how one might respond in these situations. She offers recognition that there are stages to making change, and it takes time to move from contemplating change to implementing it.
As always, Nedra uses simple, clear language to help us process a very complicated topic, while continuing to offer us empathy for whatever stage we are at.
“Even though you’ve changed, from time to time you might revisit your former thoughts or former behaviors. When that happens, greet yourself in the present with grace and understanding. It’s hard to overcome patterns, and it’s challenging to avoid lapsing into old behaviors. Know that you might not always get it right.”

Being Our True Selves In Relationships That Matter
Nedra Glover Tawwab is a New York Times bestselling author, a licensed therapist, and a sought-after relationship expert. This book is a therapeutic and educational tool that addresses how to consciously change behaviors you’d rather not have in relationships, specifically, around your family. For those of us who have delved into the self-help book world, this is an in-depth, thorough refresher, focusing on family dynamics.
Nedra’s core belief is that relationships contribute to mental health. They can cause you pain or they heal you. She focuses on taking your relationships seriously and teaches the art of having tough but intentional conversations to create positive change. OR you’ll learn how to sever ties when the relationship is unmanageable.
None is more influential than the formative years we’ve had with our family of origin. A lot of people lament that not everything is about the family, but yup, so often it’s true. In childhood, most likely we weren’t allowed to be ourselves, so our true selves started to develop when becoming an adult. Like a butterfly using its colossal strength to break out of its chrysalis, we too must use our emotional colossal strength to break out of our childhood mold in order to fly. We are able to have relationships with family on our terms.

    Trigger Warning
I’m in my early 30s and now that I’m doing the work and back in therapy, I’m looking to enhance my understanding around why and how people show up the way they do. I’m only half way through, but this book breaks it down to a foundational level with education, definitions, etc… Starting to experience friction with parents, family members and/or partners – this is the book for you! I was triggered while reading it, but also glad that I’m taking a step in the right direction.

This is a MUST have book if you are experiencing dysfunctional relationships. And not just within the family dynamic. The main message is stop trying to control and change other people’s behaviour, instead work on your own beliefs and reactions. Very good book
