Appropriate, Enjoyable, Longer Words, Excellent Pictures & Nice Quality Readers!
First of the ABCD set of Guided Science Readers and appropriate for beginning readers. The A readers are very simple ideas about nature/animals but the words aren’t so simple, so instead of a lot of two or three letter words, the child is taught to read only a few four or five letter words right from the beginning in repetition style (which is fine so not to intimidate a new reader who is reading more than simple words right from the beginning.) Pictures above words are clear photos and appropriate and match the words. Would recommend for a reader who knows the alphabet and a few shorter Pre K – Kindergarten sight words and some sounds that some letters make (phonics). The A readers are eight pages long and good for children’s small hands (5 and 1/2″ by 5 and 1/2″ or 14cm by 14cm), but again not to intimidate and remain approachable and enjoyable while encouraging. Covers are card stock and pages are glossy and are about as thick as typing paper and the edges are sewn, nice touch. These will last through several readings and can be stored in the matching sturdy cardboard box. Animal reward stickers and an activity book are included which further encourage learning and very early reading comprehension skills! Bought the remaining three sets after buying the A reader. Recommend for any child who is learning how to read!

Great Books
Wonder little reader books for a child intimated by most books. Heâs willing to try to read these.

Adorable confidence builders for early readers
My 5-year-old finally started to take an interest in reading, and I wanted something that wasn’t the typical “see Spot run” book to help him develop confidence in his reading ability. He knows tons of sight words, but it just hasn’t been at the top of his priority queue to put those words together in sentences and start reading whole books. These are eight-page books with simple words and pictures that match the story, and with very little help, my son was able to read all sixteen of them to me. If your child absolutely hates doing anything they aren’t instantly good at, and that’s been getting in the way of them learning to read, this kind of book might be exactly what you’re looking for. Having gotten his confidence up, he’s on to level B books, and is demanding more and more practice time reading with Mom and Dad. This set may not have a very long shelf life in our house, but it was precisely what we needed. I’m very satisfied, and the books are cute.

… these and they are simple repetitive books that are easy for her
Our daughter loves to read these and they are simple repetitive books that are easy for her. As an educator, I would recommend for ages 3 and 4. They aren’t really going to learn a lot of facts from these, but it’s a great way to introduce nonfiction reading.

Appropriate to the science for ages 3-7
As Christmas approaches, I’ve bought and am reading a variety of science readers for my niblings (nieces and nephews) who are beginning to read. This particular pack is the star of the lot so far of the half-dozen books I picked up.1. Great science topics including counting, color, seasons, development of an animal (frog), and a variety of animal behaviors – all aimed at the pre-school to first grade (3-7 years old) group.2. Great sociological balancing – equal number of male to females appearing in the pictures. In some books there are several children, in some none, and in some one. But over the entire series of 16, there are equal number of girls to boys. Since my sisters have mixed genders among their kneebiters, encouraging both sexes in STEM is important.

books looked kind of dumb, but my friend recommended them
Ok, so I was a little skeptical: books looked kind of dumb, but my friend recommended them. My son LOVES them!!! It is impossible to get him to try and read ANYTHING, but he LOVES these little books and even picks them up to read on his own. Awesome job Scholastic!

These are absolutely perfect for teaching little ones to read. I like them FAR better than any of the other leveled readers because they help kids learn by seeing particular words repeated in the same book, which gives the little readers confidence and tunes them into the phonics in a simple, targeted way. New readers will be able to learn sight words and read the books back to you in a simple sitting as they will learn from the cues of the repeated patterns as well as from the pictures. It’s Scholastic. So, good stuff!

Really like this product. Great use of high frequency words and picture clues to support emergent readers.

Great resource for kids that like non-fiction. A little too easy for my 4 year old (who knows his letters, sounds and some 2-3 letter words), but we still did them quickly and moved on to level B.
