Excellent story about honesty!
Nick likes to tell lies. He lied about his homework and other things. There was a consequence to his lies, as people didnât believe him anymore when he tried to tell the truth!Nick learns a hard lesson, but his family is there to support him as he turns a new leaf and decides that honesty is better. It makes him stronger! This is a good book for children. The sentences are rhyming so itâs fun to read out loud. The illustrations are colorful and depict the storyline very well.I think itâs important to teach children good values. Honesty is one of those values! This book does a nice job of teaching this! This book reminded me of the story of Peter calling wolf too many times and the villagers did not believe him anymore, when there really was a wolf!

It Takes Courage To Be Honest
âLies are like giant rocks sitting on your chest…they follow you around and never let you rest.â so little Nickâs mother tells him when his habitual lying makes him lose friends, frustrates his family, and – even when he finally tells the truth – no one believes him.In award-winning author Elizabeth Coleâs new book in the World of Kids Emotions series, Nick finds lying so easy that he doesnât realize that he is alienating friends and family and setting himself up for a world of hurt. Each time he is caught in a lie to cover up his disobedience or finds it funny to scare the daylights out of his sister, Nick suffers the consequences by losing the trust of everyone around him. When his science project is ruined by the family cat, Nickâs excuse is scoffed at by his teacher who has heard this one before! He is sad and quite confused. Thatâs the weight of guilt. âOnce trust is lost,â his mother tells him, âitâs hard to restore.â Your truth is your strength, itâs never too late to be honest and speak the truth, she says, and when you do youâll feel great. The book is told in charming and meaningful rhyme, has vibrant and lively illustrations, and moves along with nice teachable moments. I particularly like the comparison chart explaining the Advantages and Disadvantages of Honesty. No child is too young to learn the lessons of life that make them healthier, happier, and more capable to handle the complexities of life and human emotions. Check out all of Coleâs lovely books and no doubt youâll find there are some great lessons in there for adults as well.

A Heartfelt and Engaging Lesson on Honesty
Iâve been looking for a good book about how to teach honesty to my 5 year old, and this is the best one Iâve found so far. The character Nick is relatable to him and I feel like he could follow the storyline without getting bored or losing interest.I highly recommend this book to anyone looking to instill core values in children. Itâs a meaningful addition to our home library, and Iâm sure weâll revisit it often!

Honesty is the best policy!
Kids will readily see the downfall of lying as they read about Nick. Cole’s ninth book in her World of Kids’ Emotions series is another winner that shows kids the importance of being honest. In rhyming text, she offers kid-relatable scenes that show the hurtful consequences of being dishonest. She even includes an example of Nick asking Mom about telling a “white lie” intended to protect a friend’s feelings. Mom wisely counsels Nick to say something kind, but true. When Nick chooses honesty and apologizes for his lies, he regains his friends’ and family’s trust and feels good about himself. The illustrations depict the scenes with action and emotion. Back matter is a graphic giving advantages of honesty and disadvantages of lying. Imperfect poetic rhythm is a detractor for me, but the rhyme, story, and lesson are strong. A good book for teachers, caregivers, parents and guardians to read with kids.

Nice Story with Beautiful Illustrations!
I bought the Kindle version to read with my niece. After reading it myself I decided to get the paperback as well so she could have a copy of her own. The illustrations are colorful and lively and I love having a story that helps teach kids positive behavior.
