If you are looking for a book about friendship or relationships in general, I highly recommend âIâll be There (but Iâll be Wearing Sweatpants)â by Amy Weatherly and Jess Johnston.
This book came to me at the perfect time. These past few years I have struggled with health issues which in turn has caused me to create tension within my friendships. I have Ulcerative Colitis and it can be debilitating at times and very embarrassing when you have an accident or are constantly needing to run to the restroom, (TMI). I needed to share that part with you as it was a major reason for me finding this book. Friendship is very important to me, and I know it is for others as well. I never wanted to hurt anyone and these past few years I really saw how not being honest and open can not only hurt yourself; it can also hurt those closest to you.
âWeâre all grown up, but words are still hard. We can either use our words to build one another up and speak life into one anotherâs identities, or we can be people who use our words to tear others down.â
Amy and Jess are open about their struggles and triumphs with friendships. They share different experiences and how sometimes friendships end and its okay and sometimes they last a lifetime. They talk about how even in the daily chaos of normal day life they are still always looking for friendship and without it, it can be very lonely. This book is very relatable and inspiring to not give up and though it can be difficult that we need to let others in.
âWhen we own our faults, we not only take away their power but also make It less likely that weâll make the same mistakes twice. This is how we evolve in our friendships. Where did you mess up? What mistakes did you make? What have you learned? What can you do differently in your next friendship? Again, this isnât about criticizing yourself or feeling guilty. My favorite quote from the book is, âLife is like a road trip. Itâs not so much about where youâre headed as it is about the people youâre headed there with.â I love to travel and see the world, and this really resonated with me. I have been to some pretty amazing places, what makes the journey so much more memorable and wonderful is the people you surround yourself with. Even just going for a car ride into town, you know with your girlfriends it will be an adventure with the music up and singing and laughing. Those moments I will always treasure and look forward to in the future.

From the very first page you are drawn into the wonderful relationship that Amy and Jess were able to build intentionally and bonded over shared stories. They break down the awkwardness, the insecurities, the walls that weâve put up from hurts and let us know that we can build authentic relationships with effort. YES, it takes efforts.
This is the kind of book that makes you want to sit back, in your comfy sweatpants, get cozy and dive in. The stories are relatable and bring comfort. Itâs a true, I thought that was just me, situation. The thoughts and internal dialog shared had me saying YESSSSS repeatedly. This is a much needed read for this very era. We are more isolated and more openly opinionated and judged than ever.
Adult friendships are hard. Amy and Jess show us that they donât have to be and the most important thing is to be yourself. We have work to do and itâs going to be awkward, and thatâs ok. Allow this book to show you how itâs possible. It takes time to find your people and the only way to be successful is to take off our mask, stop worrying about what people think, stop trying to fit in when we were made to stand out, and just be the wonderful weird you that you were created to be.

Real life stories that provide light-hearted humor and down to earth compassion for the ladies who feel out of place or in need of genuine friendship. While the information outlined in the book isn’t necessarily groundbreaking, it is relevant. I enjoyed the book and hope to put into practice some of the things I learned.

Raw, Open and Honest. I would recommend this book to every woman from the ages of 15 to 100, from the painful truths to the OMG LOL me too moments it was worth every second of my time to read. It provides insight into friendship in the most light hearted yet also serious way. You can tell it was written by women who are just out there giving life a crack everyday trying to be the best of mothers, sisters, wives and friends through the good the bad and the ugly. I will most definitely be reading it again.
