Max is great
I have a feeling Max is going to grow up into a wonderful person. He is so happy and enjoying the moment, making friends and defending them. We all need a Max in our lives. This book is great if you want to help raise awareness of bulling in school. And to teach children not to be afraid to stand up to it and help each other.

My children love these little books. They thoroughly enjoy each and every story, as if they are all unique and individual without any cause for similarity among them. Even though sometimes, they might seem tedious and repetitive to me as a parent, I do enjoy being able to read short-stories to my children that are clean and respective.

Excellent Book
This is a great book to read as a conversation starter for young children. It touches on so many things as stated in the title “Empathy, Kindness and Friendship”. Max is a special boy who takes everyone’s feelings to heart and tries to make them feel special. I loved the story. It is beautifully illustrated and is perfect for children from preschool all the way up to primary. Harrison has done an excellent job on this book. It is engaging and draws you in. I read it to some children who loved the pictures and asked some serious questions about. I would recommend this book to parents and teachers alike.

Learning about friendship
I chose to read this book after receiving a free e-copy from the author. All opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased.Max and his dad make a kite and take it to the park, but it quickly gets stuck in a tree. Max starts crying but Martha, a girl from school, lets him fly her kite and they end up playing together all day. When theyâre on the school bus, bullies start making fun of Martha because she has a big birthmark on her face. Max stands up for her. Both sets of parents are proud of Max, and heâs happy to have a new friend.I Have a Friend is another sweet Max story that teaches children about not judging others by their appearance. It also shows what good friends Martha and Max are in their new friendship. The story is presented in rhymes, and the illustrations are vibrant. The rhyming and illustrations will keep the attention of children, so they can read and enjoy the story while learning important life lessons.

A lovely book that all kids should read and learn how to act
“I have a Friend” is a colorful very cute book with nice drawings of likeable characters – most of them, but not all. It is about family, friendship, and learning that a disfigurement is no reason for abandonment, and learning how to be a “real friend.”

Sharing concerns and fostering friendships
Author Aleks Harrison is a welcome author to the field of books for children, especially books that both entertain and teach youngsters about dealing with emotions and feelings. His series EMOTIONS AND FEELINGS to date includes I FEEL ANGRY, HOORAY I CAN DO IT, I LIKE TO BE KIND, and now I HAVE A FRIEND. The fine illustrations are the art of Ferlina Gunawan.Aleks presents his book in rhyming pattern that adds to the appeal of the book to children. We see Max and his father creating a kite (parent child relationship!), and Ma x takes his new kite to the park, meets a new friend Martha, and when the kite becomes arbor bound, Martha responds and saves the day. A new friendship is formed and the next day when Martha is ridicules for a birthmark on her cheek, Max steps up and defends his friend â saving the day for her, and for then newfound belief in the importance of friendships!Charming writing, fine illustrations, and very solid advice, offered in a manner that children can absorb! Aleks Harrison is a positive voice in childrenâs literature. Recommended. Grady Harp, April 22

I love this book as it also brings to light the idea that looks mean nothing!

This was a really nice story with a positive message but I felt like it was very short. I have read and enjoyed other books by the author and this did seem very short in comparison but it is one young readers will enjoy, so it was still a good read for me.
