What are bff to lovers if not a little messy
In Emily Henryâs “People We Meet on Vacation,” opposites collide in a decade-long saga of friendship, love, and second chances. Poppy and Alex, despite their wildly different personalitiesâsheâs the adventurous New Yorker, heâs the reserved hometown guyâforge a deep bond through annual summer vacations. The story unfolds through dual timelines, alternating between their carefree adventures and the aftermath of a falling out that fractures their friendship. Poppy, with her irrepressible wanderlust and infectious spontaneity, contrasts sharply with Alexâs quiet, bookish demeanor. Yet their banter and deep understanding of each otherâs quirks make them inseparableâuntil a pivotal moment changes everything.Henry deftly navigates the friends-to-lovers trope, infusing humor and heart into their journey. Poppyâs quest to revive their tradition becomes a voyage of self-discovery as she confronts her own stagnation and yearning for happiness with Alex. Her character is vibrant and relatable, driving the narrative with wit and charm.Alex, seen through Poppyâs eyes, is portrayed as lovable yet mysteriousâa man of routines and hidden depths. While the single point of view intensifies the storyâs tension, glimpses into Alexâs perspective during critical moments could have enriched their evolving relationship. The novel thrives on Henryâs sharp dialogue and evocative settings. The chemistry between Poppy and Alex crackles with energy, their witty exchanges and unspoken longing drawing me into their emotional rollercoaster. While the conclusion offers closure and hope, I craved more insight into Alexâs thoughts, particularly in the airport scene near the end. Nonetheless, “People We Meet on Vacation” is a delightful romantic comedy that celebrates the power of friendship, the magic of summer adventures and loving someone “all the way.”

great read!
The pace is much different from Beach Read. Must faster, but without giving everything away before the end.The friends to lovers trope is great and so well done. I love how Henry I able to write swoon worthy love stories but without being cliche or cringe, and really focus on how you canât just be in a relationship without being in the right headspace also. Sheâs great!! Really love her work. This one was also funnier, even though the personal struggles in Beach Read was better executed imo, but it better written and I feel like you can sense Henry is landing in her writing as literary fiction with romance plots.SpoilersI liked that they needed time apart to figure out if and how they could be together, after their vacation. It really put the personal development and wellbeing first.Only âdislikeâ would be the many vacations. It felt like one or two too many. It could be that I generally donât like two storylines, but I found that I was bit âsadâ when the flashbacks came, because it wasnât untill the end of those chapters that I felt they made any sense or gave anything to the plot. So a great force to push the story forward, and some very great chapters (Norway/Sweden vacation looking at youð), but often it felt like something to get through..Stilled loved the book tho<333

Heartfelt Exploration of Friendship and Love
In “People We Meet on Vacation,” Emily Henry crafts a charming and emotionally resonant story about two best friends, Poppy and Alex, whose dynamic has shifted after years of shared summer adventures. The contrast between Poppy’s adventurous spirit and Alex’s more grounded nature adds depth to their relationship, reflecting the complexities of friendships that evolve over time. The tension from their past, especially following their last disastrous trip, looms large as Poppy attempts to reconnect and salvage their bond.Henry skillfully navigates themes of regret, love, and personal growth, inviting readers along on Poppy’s journey of self-discovery and reconciliation. The vacation setting serves as the perfect backdrop for their exploration of unspoken feelings, allowing for both lighthearted moments and poignant revelations. “People We Meet on Vacation” is a touching reminder of how the people we cherish can change our lives in profound ways, making it a delightful read for anyone who appreciates heartfelt romantic comedies.

emily henry is a good writer, ill admit but i did not buy into poppy/alex
this is my first emily henry book. i can say it is a great summer book! i love the way she describes each location they visit and it makes u feel like ur on vacation. i also enjoy what she says about traveling, meeting new people, and experiencing life.however, the couple was just so mid for me. i dont like the super eccentric girl meet shy awkward guy, it felt a little lackluster in chemistry. i appreciate getting their backstory and seeing their foundation of friendship so it doesnt fully fall into that trope.also, it took them like 70% to finally get together and after that have a third act breakup which was just like ? for that, im giving this book 3 stars bc i did enjoy her writing style and i look forward to reading her other works. i just did not buy into this couple

Optimistically skeptical
For not being super contemporary romance based reader, these characters felt real enough to smile and laugh at. The struggles felt important and overall this was just a fun way to spend some time with a different feet kicking group of characters. The material felt close but far and overall I enjoyed it.

Super bem escrito, despojado e viciante.

This book was the April addition to a book club Iâm apart of. I havenât read anything from Emily Henry before and I absolutely devoured this book. I love the friendship and building sexual tension between Poppy and Alex. It made me laugh and cry; simply couldnât put it down. Maybe Iâm a sucker for romance, but this gave me all the feels. Ordering Emily Henryâs âBeach Readâ today. Also wanted to mention that the book came without any defects .
