Authenic J Fit product received / Great for releasing tension
There is a review in the thread questioning the authenticity due to a change in look/design between the first and second rollers purchased. The manufacturer chimes in. Mine arrived on 9/11/12, and I did receive an authentic J Fit, labeled accordingly with a J Fit emblem.Before buying this product, do a couple things:1) Google high density foam vs. EVA. There are plenty of good articles and video explaining the differences between the white (softest), black (firmest), and green/blue (med) rollers. They explain the differences in pressing that determines the firmness differences, full roller vs 1/2 roller, and even talk about what size to get–12, 18, or 36. No need to buy multiple rollers if just one will do for you.2) Read thru the reviews. Many reviewers have taken time to explain what reason/injury/problem/recommendation led to a foam roller. Back pain, leg pain, gym users, trainers, physical therapy—-tons of good info.3) Follow the price. Usually around $28, price will often drop to the $23-$24 range. Snagged mine thru Warehouse Deals for $20.One of the trainers at my gym has advised me several times to use a foam roller, saying that as much as I run, I have tension all over and would really benefit. People I see using them have said it really gets the muscles relaxed. Sweat concerns aside, I haven’t set up time with the trainer to have him show me various stretches, but now that I’ve bought one, I will. I was also told it does not feel good when you first start using it; that it can be painful if you have a lot of muscle tension. I chose the black version because it’s the most firm, and 36″ so I could do my back with ease. As I plan to use for the long term, I didn’t want to start out with something smaller or less firm, outgrow it, and have to buy again.This roller is solid. Very solid. No worries about breaking or bending. Took it out the box, sat on the floor and rolled my back. Amazing! It wasn’t painful, but it’s not a therapeutic feel-good massage. You feel the pressure. And I could feel the tension releasing, which was a borderline feel-good sensation. Then I hit legs, calves and quads, as I’ve seen others at the gym do. Again, amazing. You really do feel the tension leaving your body! It was a bit uncomfortable on my calves, which means I have a lot of tension in them and need to work them more. Even though I haven’t set up time with the trainer, that same Google search produced videos on using the roller–back, calves, quads, hams, glutes, shoulders, etc… And lastly, I found it most difficult to work the calves. It’s easy enough for the back, butt, hams, quads, but for calves you have to position your arms to move your body so you can go over the roller. Ideally, you’d want to roll from ankle to knee, but your range of motion is restricted, even working one calf at a time. (This is not a flaw of the roller, just something you should know.)Another huge benefit is budget. My gym is very big on massage therapy. Wants you to schedule a day just for massage, or after workout if your time is tight, and work on your problem areas. Even just once per week, a 30 minute session will quickly affect your budget. So if you’re like me and watch where you spend your money, get a roller and learn to self massage. The price of the roller is WAY cheaper than a single massage session.So I’m sold. Should have gotten one of these a long time ago. I’m going to shoot for daily adding this into my workout as a scheduled part of my routine. Money well spent. Don’t overthink it. Just buy it. Your body will thank you.

iliotibal band syndrome cure!
I thought I would write this review in order to help others who may be reading this who may have iliotibal band syndrome or some IT band problems that prevent routine exercises. If this review is helpful please thumb it up or ask a question and I’ll try to help you out!When I first started getting IT band pains I didnt know what it was or what was going on and blissfully thought it was going to go away by itself. My regular routine was running 4 miles 2 days a week at 6:30-7 min mile pace. I was training for my upcoming law enforcement academy so I needed to be able to run at my most potential at an accelerated rate. But during my routines I started noticing some discomfort at first and then some small pains, but I thought nothing of it and continued with my same plan. Eventually I would start receiving the pain at the same point every run, the 2 mile mark. And at this point the pain was so bad that I couldnt tough it out anymore and HAD to stop. Keep in mind I still had no idea was the pain was at this point. I decided to take a week off and then try again, but the pain still remained. Took 2 weeks off and again, the pain was still there. So I decided I would take a month off of any running (hard decision at this point) and see if it would go again. It didnt. It was in the same spot and would always hit me at the 2 mile mark. So I decided I would stop altogether and see a doctor, where he told me I had IT Band syndrome.The doctor refereed me to Physical Therapy and gave me some tips to help reduce the pain and problems.He told me to 1) Take and Advil before a run to reduce the swelling of the band during the run, 2)Stretch your IT Band thoroughly (gave me a diagram of stretches but you can look online for better ones), 3) To actually go to Physical Therapy. So I took his advice. I went to PT and did a variety of different stretches, exercises, and they told me to get my own foam roller like (this one) and to use it everyday before you go to bed. So I followed that advice. The Foam Roller is PAINFUL at first! (but after about 2 months it isnt painful anymore). Look online how to use it, theres plenty of videos on YouTube. Some of the stretches I was showed in PT IMMEDIATELY relieved the pain, which is how I knew this was going to work. When I ran prior to seeing the doc and getting therapy I had trouble even walking the next day, and these stretches made a huge difference. Go online and look for some videos because they will temporarily remove any resonating pain immediately in the IT band.While in PT I gradually got back into running. 1.5 miles one day while using the foam roller, going to PT, taking and advil, and stretching the band before the run – no pain. Next time 2 miles – no pain. 4 miles – no pain. 5 miles – no pain whatsoever. I feel cured from IT Band syndrome but im not willing to stop the stretching, advil, or foam rolling routine to find out for sure. All I know is that my process worked and now I dont have to stress about it anymore. The foam roller doesnt hurt like hell anymore which is amazing. Before it was almost unbearable because the band was so tight. But now I feel great and am on the right path I wanted to be on without worries and no pain!!!!My advice to anyone with IT Band syndrome is to seek help and not to power through it, otherwise it will get worse. But remember what I did…1) Take an advil before your run2) Stretch the IT Band before and after your run (videos on youtube of the best ones)3) Buy the foam roller here and use it every night in your room before you go to bed (videos how to use it on youtube also)4) Go to PT, it WILL work!On a side note I did buy the leg band as well, but didnt use it on my 5 mile run and was absolutely fine. Might work, might not work. I had no way to really control the other variables, but I used it on all of my other runs as precautionary measure and had no pain.

Costly but durable and effective!
I’ve had this foam roller since Oct. 2010. It’s been going strong ever since and hasn’t lost it’s shape or anything. I’ve got a few dents in mine since an idiot used it with his big ugly belt on. Hint! Don’t wear belts or anything metal/hard that may damage the foam roller. It’s high-density but not invincible.[…]It helps break up scar tissue and loosen up facial tissue. Making you feel loose and tingly (like after a massage)… but just like a massage you have to go through the painful process of, well, massaging your muscles!The black foam roller packs quite a punch and if you’re looking to go nuts, try the “rumble roller!” Boy that thing hurts even more! Great Product
I was recommended to purchase one of these by my personal trainer. He taught me some basic exercises/streches to use at the gym, but I wanted my own so I would not have to roll around on one used by others at the gym. After a few days of regular stretches on this, I noticed a complete difference in the way I felt, in particular my upperback/shoulders which always bothers me from sitting at a desk all day. Whether you are an active person or not, I highly recommend this product, its a personal massager that helps to work out knots in your body. The quality is good, and the price is comparable if not better then what you would find in a retail store. I also bought a $10 book that shows how to use this roller effectively which I plan to use.

Does the job for me!I bought it for IT band rolling as well as for other parts of my leg because I have PFS in my right knee. It’s ideal for back and neck rolling too.I’m below average in size (5’5″ / 125lbs), so the 12″ is long enough for me. Size up if you are above average in size.I just don’t understand why these are so expensive… It must be the high cost of high density foam materials.
