Beautiful coffee table book and very practical
Lonely Planet has written another excellent book-not exactly a tour book but not entirely a running book either.
The book is entitled “Epic Runs of the World.” I’ve never quite read a book like this before. I thought I was getting just a guide to different areas in different countries to run in. What I got instead was a very nice, hardcover book of 328 pages with beautiful photographs and descriptions not only of places to run in, but events.
I was not expecting all the marathon and half marathon information at all. Most of which I had never, ever heard of. The Boston Marathon is a given, and yes, I’ve definitely heard of that one but what about the Safaricom Half Marathon? The Grand Canyon’s Rim to Rim Challenge? A Portal to the Post in Wales? Or The Ghost Run of Waihi Gorge in New Zealand? This book gives you vivid descriptions of the tracks and the people to expect on them. And the pictures….did I already mention how incredible the pictures were to this guide? The pictures capture the essence of most of the races and really add to the descriptions of the events and the runs in this book.
This is one of my favorite Lonely Planet guides. I admit I have not encountered a bad one yet, the books put out by this company are thoughtful, interesting and filled with practical information in addition to being nice to look at. While this is not a pocket guide, as you look at it lying on your coffee table you will be inspired to new heights of running and of travel.

I love it. I gave it to my sister as a gift and we read it and would love to run one together 🙂 inspirational book! Heavy but nice to keep it for long time.

Runner’s Fantasy
This is a great visual guide to inspire runners about all kinds of amazing races, trails, roads, etc. Some of these are INSANE, and I’d never consider them, while others are more of a “destination” route. The nice thing is that as a runner, all you need are some shoes and running clothes and you’re golden. No need to pack up extensive gear to get to these incredible spots. Honestly, the book is a great conversation starter when my running club friends are over. Fun inspiration, and great photos with narrative write up to get your creative running instincts to fire up!

Great gift for runners! It’s a beautiful book!
Lonely Planet puts out some unique travel books that are fun, informative and also, gorgeous! The theme here is Epic Runs of the World! Perfect for the avid traveler and runner! you could use this to plan a great get away, or use it to find a good place to run while you’re doing business in any number of cities. The photographs are beautiful, and the information is up to date and useful. Perfect gift for the runner in your life who is always trying to figure out where to head for a run or jog (or walk!) while on trips.

Good gift for hardcore distance runners.
This is a book that is aimed at pretty hardcore (and certainly younger) distance runners. That really isnât me anymore. But it is a friendâs daughter, who coaches cross-country. I enjoyed (and will enjoy) looking through the book and reading the informative text. She is likely to get more actual use out of the book. I think it is likely to make an excellent present, both for runners who can follow its trails and for former runners who can now only dream about that….

My parents are marathoners and my dad is an Iron man. This book would be a perfect gift for some one like that. The colors a great and the binding is high quality. I like the size of the book and the insights it provides. I am so excited to show them this book next time they visit. So much interesting information is contained in this book it is fantastic!

I bought it as a gift to an enthusiastic runner and he loves it. He has already planned to run some of the trails from the book some day.

The book came with the bottom corners all dented and a bit torn. This is a big and heavy hardcover book. The seller just put it in a box that’s too big without any padding at all.
