Great Home Exercise Bike- Highly Recommend
I have terrible knees and exercise is critical. We owned an upright exercise bike that in its last days mainly held clothes. When we got rid of it, we never replaced it because I really needed a recumbent bike. The gym had several. When the pandemic kept me from my gym, I struggled to find something to use at home. This bike has been terrific! The price is more than good. I find the bike to be comfortable and easy to use. It has a low profile that makes it very easy to get on and off the seat. There is no high bar to step over. (If you have ever had knee surgery, you know how helpful that can be- especially in the early post-op days.) It is stable while riding and while getting on and off. The display is more than enough for me. I ordinarily gauge my ride by time and distance both of which are among the stats displayed. The motion is smooth enough that I can hold my Kindle and read. The action is incredibly quiet, so it would be easy to watch a television if you have one nearby. The tension on the pedal action is adjustable by turning a dial on the front post that ranges up to level 8. I usually ride at around level 5. You can reach the dial from the seat. With one exception, my husband and I had no difficulty assembling the bike. Everything is included, and the drawings for the instructions are easy to follow with that one exception. We made a mistake when attaching the cables. We did not have the tension cable seated correctly. The bottom part of the connector has to be threaded into a small clip (easy) and the top part of the fitting needs to be seated on top of the larger metal piece (not easy and where we went wrong). It was a small mistake, but the result was that the tension was stuck at the maximum level. The maximum level is extremely difficult, so I could not use the bike. It was easy to unbolt the one connection and fix the mistake once we knew where we went wrong. We found a You Tube video that was immensely helpful. Once we redid that connection, we were good to go.

Great exercise bike if you have the right expectation and usage
I am a male in my late 20s.I’m about 5’9″ and 160lbs.I ride a real bike regularly (when the weather permits) for distances around 30+ miles. (Nighttime riding into and around NYC and then back to the burbs)That course includes some steep uphills and having to pedal for your life to get away from cars.As the winter weather (slowly) started I wanted something I can fit in the house and is affordable. To get it out of the way.. there is NO WAY this bike has enough resistance.I can overpower the ‘magnetic resistance’ on its highest setting and make it feel like the pedals ‘skip’ instead of providing smooth resistance. But resistance from the pedals isn’t the only way to get a good exercise. You can get an excellent exercise from pedal speed.I usually leave it at ‘3’ while changing pedaling speed and then putting it to higher resistance periodically (almost like interval training)You can get as hard of a workout as you want with your pedaling speed (I can get this sucker reading out past 40mph at my highest effort… which makes me doubt any of the readouts other than the time)It’s also really really quiet. (even at ‘top speed’)The bike itself is actually well designed, the handlebars give you a variety of options for extended rides. The seat is actually pretty comfortable (if you’re at all used to riding bikes). They spend enough effort to actually give you a channeled groove in the center to relieve pressure in ‘that area’It also has a very small footprint.I’ve so far used the bike for about month and it’s not showing any indication that it will fail on me soon. The assembly is about as easy as I expected and took all of 20 minutes. (I did struggle a little bit attaching the cable for the resistance adjustment)It’s not going to replicate hill climbing type of effort and it doesn’t exactly FEEL like you’re riding a real bike, but for the money you pay and for all the pros, it’s hard to go wrong with the bike.At the price point it’s really hard to even point out any cons… err.. I don’t like orange on the plastic shroud?Wait, no… I do.***Update 5/30/12***I’m going to update the rating to 5 stars. The bike as seen less and less use since the weather’s been getting warmer, but it’s holding up very well.Even with fairly regular use nothing broke, and there’s no squeaks or rattles to speak of.I’m very impressed with how well it held up so far and expect the bike to hold up (mainly as a coat hanger until this winter) and provide its service when called upon (and beyond)— I also want to RE-emphasize how SILENT it is even at FULL SPEED, I don’t have to adjust the TV volume at all while riding and even late night I don’t have to worry about making too much noise.— Still liking that orange shroud =)

    Good starter bike
I have a knee injury and walking on my treadmill causes me ongoing pain. I wanted to try switching to a stationary bike but I didn’t want to spend a lot of money to give it a try. This thing was cheaper than my local gym and is pretty sturdy. The instructions suggest an assistant for assembly but I was able to put it together myself. I didn’t time myself but I would estimate a half hour or less. The instructions were pretty clear, my one complaint is that the first step is ‘Do not tighten Nuts and Bolts until instructed to do so’ in bold font, clearly important. But then there is only instruction to tighten the nuts and bolts in step 1 (there are 5 steps to assembly). Seems like they missed something there but it’s a minor complaint.Gave it a ten minute test ride after assembly and it seems pretty sturdy. The negative feedback I’ve heard from people who buy cheap bikes is that they are loud and/or wobbly and this one is neither. The seat adjusts up and down in set increments but not forward or backwards. There is no adjustment for the handlebar. The tension doesn’t seem to do much of anything. Might make a difference after more than 10 minutes but it’s not noticeable in the 10 minute test ride I took. There is no place to put anything (water bottle, phone, etc) so I may grab a cheap kid’s bike basket if it will fit, if not I will move it near a table. The seat is pretty uncomfortable but that’s a common problem with stationary bikes and I didn’t expect much at this price point.Overall I’d recommend it as a starter bike but not for a long-term option because tension doesn’t seem to be there and the lack of forward/backward seat adjustment and handlebar adjustments.

What really impressed me as I unboxed and assembled the bike – was just how well built it was – very solid. The instructions were okay but I suggest watching a You Tube video on assembling this bike. The computer monitor really did need some suggestions of how to insert the wiring. With the help of You Tube…it went quickly.Once on the bike – it felt sturdy….a few tweaks and bolt tightening removed any movement. The flywheel is particularly smooth and I felt no difference from much more expensive fitness centre bikes. The monitor is basic – but provides most of what you need to know during a workout. (time, calories, distance, speed etc.). There is no holder for a phone or tablet….but that I imagine could be added to the post at some point. The adjustment for leg length is manual and a bit stiff but not something you are doing continuously so not an issue. What IS important is you can be over 6 FT and be comfortable as well as just over 5 FT!Having just had hip surgery and unable yet to ride an upright bike….the Marcy really has permitted me to “get back in the saddle” and get some aerobic activity and leg muscle strengthening. There are 8 resistance levels which is enough for a decent workout. Those looking for a “professional” type bike will need to spend more but for anyone looking for a well constructed and quiet recumbent bike at home….the Marcy MC-709 should be more than adequate. Recumbent bike reviews on You Tube and online have recommended this as a good budget bike for several years now and for good reason. (I did not receive any payment for this review).

Because there’s quite a lot of self assembly involved you get a good feel for how well built this bike is. I was a bit concerned that at the price point it would be poor quality, but it really feels sturdy and will stand the test of time! Everything works as it should and I’m very impressed!

A lot of the reviews for this exercise bike indicate that it’s a very good buy for the money. It is a basic bike, but very well built and solid. The seat is about the only deficit with it… not that comfortable, and limited in its adjustments to up and down. The magnetic mechanism is almost silent, smooth, and easily adjusted. I imagine it will last a long time (especially since I need more discipline to use it than I presently possess). I would say it compares to many exercise bikes costing hundreds more, and surpasses most of the ones that use friction belts and flywheels. Great for the cost, shipped well, assembled reasonably easily, looks good, and is an all around good purchase.
