Good book for children.
I wanted to teach my two grandsons about the wild Manatees that I saw in the canals of Sarasota FL. I found this book and another book for children from National Geographic. They loved everything and the books were a nice way for them to learn. Also, I found two stuffed Manatees for them. They now love Manatees.

Fun to read
This is an adorable creative childrenâs story that relays a strong anti-bully message. It is a helpful read to ease the first day of school jitters while teaching kids to be kind. It is a fun read with neat rhymes and a beautiful palette of illustrations.

FIRST DAY LESSON AT SCHOOL
Monty the Manatee is off for his first day of school. He tries his best to make friends with the creatures of the sea. Monty approaches the jellyfish, the shrimp, a school of fish and a seal. No one is interested and all make fun of Monty. The tables are turned when a shark appears looking to make these creatures his dinner. Monty uses his talent to camouflage himself as a rock to shelter and save them. At last, they are grateful and appreciate Monty’s, kind heart. Monty delivers a strong message against bullying.
This book is written in rhyme. It works better in some spots than others. Illustrations are vibrant and appealing. I would recommend the book especially for readers under age eight.

The book is cute, however, it is not printed correctly/evenly, leaving a white mark on the bottom of each page, as well as cutting off a word.

I really enjoyed reading this book to my five year old. It was just the right length for a bedtime read, without going on forever and it was nicely laid out. It was easy to pretend to be the voices of the characters in the story. With some books I find I get all mixed up with my character voices and I feel exasperated and quite frankly, relieved, by the time we’re finished! Not this one though. It was very easy to follow and rhymes beautifully.
The story itself is lovely, and has an important message about being kind. Monty is bullied by other fish but when he saves the day, they all become friends. The pictures are bright and vibrant and a pleasure to look at and talk about.
In addition to this, there are some interesting key facts about Manatees on the final page. My son throughly enjoyed this book, as did I.
