I admit that I am more of a shave cream guy, and less a fan of shave gels like this. That being said, this does seem like a quality product. It is a clear light-green to bluish gel, which is comfortable on the skin, and it provides very good lubrication for the shave, providing a very comfortable shave. It does not foam up nearly as much as the more traditional shaving cream that I usually use. I can see how the gel being clear might be a benefit for those wanting to see portions of a beard or sideburn that they do not wish to cut, but on the other hand I still prefer the white foam of a shaving cream. I also enjoy using that shave cream along with a badger bristle shaving brush, and I am under the impression that this product is meant to be applied directly by hand and not by brush, based on the printed instructions, though I suspect one could try that if they preferred. Without that white foam, it is more difficult to see which parts of your face you have already shaved and those you have not, because this clear gel looks essentially invisible on your skin, leaving shaved and unshaved areas looking quite similar. I find myself re-shaving some areas just to make sure that I did actually shave all areas of my face. The scent is pleasant; I would say that it is a somewhat medicinal masculine scent. So, I do like this shave gel, though I do plan to return to a more traditional foamy shave cream.

Really nice shaving gel
I stopped using canned shaving foam many years ago. These days I prefer a wet shave with a brush and soap. However, I was very interested to see how much better or worse my shave would be using a gel.Had my first shave this morning using this gel from Murdock London. There were a few pleasant surprises here. First, you really don’t need much of this to get a complete shave. As the directions indicate, two pumps and warm water produce a fairly decent amount of lather in the hand. It’s kind of difficult to call it “lather” as it’s not a huge soapy mess like canned foam would produce. Instead, it’s an abundantly slick gel that spreads easily across the face and under the neck.While it may not look like much once applied, the real joy of using this gel is discovering how well your razor glides across your skin. I would say that as someone who has been using some form of soap most of my life, this gel provided the most effortless shave that I ever had.And while this Murdock London gel isn’t cheap, I do give it high merits on its shave quality and the fact that a little bit goes a long way. For that reason, you should get a considerable amount of very comfortable shaves out of this 8.5-ounce bottle.

Gel or Foam
You can use this as either. It’s blue, but hard to see on your face as a gel unless you apply it very thickly. I don’t love the masculine-herbal-medicinal? scent, but it isn’t bad. It works fine. I don’t think my husband will be switching, especially considering the $24 price tag. It’s too bad the bottle arrives all scratched up because it’s handsome otherwise. It has a twist lock pump. It arrived unsealed.
