Learning about good manners in a fun way
I have read a few of Elizabeth Coleâs books in the My way: Social Emotional Books for Kids series, so I was pretty sure that this would be another great childrenâs book. I wasnât disappointed.Melissa has bad manners. In fact, theyâre so bad that her classmates wonât play with her. When Melissa comes home upset, her mom suggests she works on having good manners, but she isnât sure how to change. Her mom makes her a list which she uses all the time to find out the right thing to say or do. She realizes that having good manners isnât difficult and that if she is nice to others, they will be nice to her. Eventually, the good manners become habit, and she doesnât need the list anymore. The story is told in rhymes and the illustrations are cute and colorful. It helps children to learn about good manners and ways to be nice rather than rude or obnoxious.

Wonderful Approach to Teach Manners
In My Way to Good Manner, Ms. Cole crafts a story about a young girl named Melissa who doesnât realize she is impolite and alienating friends. Instead of lecturing Melissa about her behavior, her mother suggests creating a Good Manners list of rules to follow. This is a productive and positive strategy to implement with children. Through Melissa, the story shows when and where to implement the rules and modify impolite behaviors. As a teacher, I see many children who are just like Melissa and therefore highly recommend this book be used as a teaching tool in primary grades (TK – 3). The wonderful illustrations are delightful and would appeal to young readers.

Great Book for Teaching Good Manners
My four and five year old had been exhibiting some bad manners lately. We got a good manners chart and this book and they have loved it and it has worked really well!! This was exactly what I was looking for and I highly recommend

Excellent book to teach kids manners
This is a nice story about what it means to have good manners. At the beginning, Melissa displays bad manners and her family is not happy about it. Then, she is given a list of what good manners are and puts it into practice. She is happy with the results and soon doesnât need the list. Very bright colorful illustrations.

A delightful book with an important message
We’ve read and enjoyed several of Elizabeth Cole’s books, and my daughter loves them all. In this book, I love the range of manners that are covered. Some of the things my daughter has down (saying please and thank you, etc), while others she needs to work on (waiting for her turn to speak, etc). I love that this book covers so many different types of manners. The cherry on top is that the illustrations are also fun and colorful. Really, what’s not to love? Thanks for another wonderful book! I can’t wait to see what you write next!

Such a lovely book that encourages good manners
Good manners is something that children often need to be reminded about and nudged to have at a very young age. This sweet story emphasizes the old saying, âtreat others as youâd like to be treatedâ. As a parent, I would often remind my children when they were younger to say, âplease and thank youâ. Now, they do it on their own. This is not only a lovely story with beautiful illustrations, but reenforces the importance of always having good manners.

Kids will relate!
This is a book for small children, a story told where the main character, Melissa, finds herself in many situations where she learns to behave in a polite and caring way. She has a list of manners and children reading this book will be able to identify with those same situations in their own lives. Beautifully illustrated, there’s a lot going on in this book to keep a child’s interest. It will also spark conversations about their own experiences and behaviors.

A creative solution to a problem
This is a sweet book. The idea of creating a list of good manners that the little girl could refer to in all situations was very cleaver. My children are much older, but I would implement this technique if my child had bad manners. I liked that it showed how being nice makes a huge impact in life. I didn’t expect it to rhythm, but I think it was a nice touch. Overall I really liked this book. It would be good for all kids to read even if they don’t have bad manners.
