Great for a preschooler
Iâve bought this for a 6 year old as a graduation gift. Sheâs already at an advanced reading level but this was an amazing gift to keep her engaged in reading . She loves Tnmt â¤ï¸ it is small but itâs perfect for the go

It depends on what youâre looking for
The books are little. The stories are great for beginner readers especially if they like Tmnt. They help recognize sight words and the pages only have between one and three sentences. That really helps to keep the new reader from getting bored. Good graphics.

Effective and Engaging
I was struggling to get my almost 6 year old to practice reading over the summer. It was always a battle and I really just wanted it to be enjoyable for him. Over the summer he got really into TMNT and I wanted to leverage that interest to get him to read. These books are easy enough (he isn’t intimidated/discouraged) and I like how they focus on specific sight words and letter sounds and provide enough repetition to make it stick. Each book has a different story and different phonetic focus. My son will easily read us a couple of these in a row willingly, no fuss.

Great simple stories for young readers.
This set had really cute little books. They did a good job making the stories simple but fun. If a kid likes Ninja Turtles, this will be a hit! The most difficult vocab is just the turtles’ names…but they can use the pic and beginning sound to figure that out quickly

Not the best series but my kids love them for the characters
My sons (ages 3&5) love these books dearly. The way the words are laid out, on a blank page or at least separate from the illustrations, are appropriate for beginning readers or kids that can only identify letters and some words. The front covers are a bit difficult for a new reader to read as the letters of the title are stylized in the âTMNT fontâ and there is a lot of extra words on the front. I gave a three star rating because the stories do not always make much sense, a common enough affliction for these phonics books. But my kids have been exposed to enough cohesive narratives and rich characters to be annoyed by the storylines. For example, one story has the turtles being chased by droids in the van, but nothing about how they escape. Here is the text of that page and the next: âThey get chased on the way. The van shakes! Oh, no! The cake! (Turn the page) The cake is okay! The turtles are safe.â My kids are never satisfied by this and other similar storylines and I end up making up what happens. In other books in the series the storylines are still simple but make sense all the way through. This could have been done better in all 12 books. Also, the illustrations are clearly reused several times – a small thing, Iâm sure to keep the cost down. Iâm not even sure my kids care. But Iâve seen better beginning reading series and phonics books that retain some integrity of narrative and put full effort into the illustrations; however, I havenât yet found one for these particular characters. Overall, sufficient for what I purchased them for. I do appreciate that the narratives are tame and not too scary, important for the age range (preschool through kindergarten or 1st grade) at which the reading level is aimed. I also do not like that the letter a used is represented by a non-standard a, not the one taught in most writing books. My kids know that this a represents the sound the standard a makes, but it is unnecessary at this level and could have been fixed by choosing a different font.

The nephew LOVES it and so did I!It’s a wonderful gift for a small adult and a big child!Don’t break a small adult’s heart by not knowing the names of their favourite ninjas so here’s a quick summary for the big children=1 Donatello=Purple eye mask2. Raphael=Red eye mask3. Leonardo=Blue eye mask4. Michelangelo=Orange eye mask5. Splinter=The ninjutsu rat (you)6. Shredder=The supervillain (Wolverine cosplayer)7. Krang=The supervillain who is a brain-like Alien but never call him a Utrom because even he didn’t call himself that. Do you get it, parents? No?Use this as a reference guide if your child gives you dirty looks for confusing the turtles because they’re named after the four most famous Renaissance artists and Antonio da Corregio wasn’t included because he’s Teenage mutant ninja Waldo, perhaps…Donatello was Italian and Italians love their Purple Garlic.Raphael starts with an R so that’s Red.Leo, like the guy in the Titanic movie… He drowned in the blue sea so that’s blue. Michelangelo… Angels like to eat oranges so that’s orange.Have a nice day.

These books are very small and thin, with simple stories, but for kids just learning to read they’re very helpful. If your child is into TMNT then this set motivates them quite well. My 4 year old in reception uses these books to practice reading each night, and finds them much more engaging than some of the reading schemes from school, because it has his favourite characters in it.It’s set out well so you can see which sound each book focuses on – like one focus on the short A sound, like jam, jab etc.. so those words will all get featured, and one will be the short i sound, others are slightly trickier sounds, and then you get a couple that are mixed. These are more specific phonic based than the normal step into reading books, and as mentioned they are smaller, so don’t expect it to be quite the same as the other stand alone books, but it is a good set for kids of about 4-5 who are learning
