INSTANT #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

In his New York Instances bestselling e book, Self-discipline Is Future, Ryan Vacation made the Stoic case for a lifetime of self-discipline. On this much-anticipated third installment within the Stoic Virtues collection, he argues for the need of doing what’s proper – even when it isn’t simple

For the ancients, the whole lot value pursuing in life flowed from a robust sense of justice—or one’s dedication to doing the correct factor, regardless of how troublesome. With a view to be brave, sensible, and self-disciplined, one should start with justice. The affect of the trendy world usually tells us that performing justly is elective. Vacation argues that that’s merely unfaithful—and the truth that so few folks in the present day have the energy to face by their convictions explains a lot about why we’re so sad.

In Proper Factor, Proper Now, Vacation attracts on fascinating tales of historic figures comparable to Marcus Aurelius, Florence Nightingale, Jimmy Carter, Gandhi, and Frederick Douglass, whose examples of kindness, honesty, integrity, and loyalty we will emulate as pillars of upright residing. By means of the lives of those position fashions, readers be taught the transformational energy of residing by an ethical code and, via the cautionary tales of unjust leaders, the results of an ill-formed conscience.

The Stoics by no means claimed that residing justly was simple, solely that it was needed. And that the choice—sacrificing our rules for one thing lesser—was thought of solely by cowards and fools. Proper Factor, Proper Now could be a robust antidote to the ethical failures of our trendy age, and a guide for residing virtuously.

Without a doubt this is Ryan Holiday’s best writing
I have read most of Ryan Holiday’s books, and without a shadow of a doubt, this is his best writing. I bought this book twice so I can share it with others. While reading this book I came across my very own crossroads. The same metaphorical crossroads that Hercules himself faced. Without this book, I wouldn’t have been able to discern the significance of my own crossroads moment. It’s forced me to reevaluate my life deeply and profoundly. The questions this book constantly poses to its reader are simple, if not you then who? If not now then when? Can you do the right thing even though it will cost you? Can you stop looking for the third thing when you do something right? Can you be good for the sake of being good?Of all the stoic virtues this I truly believe to be the most important.Right thing, right now.Thank you Ryan Holiday for this amazing work.

    Excellent read
This book was incredibly well-written, sticking to its purpose and delivering on its four virtues. If more people knew about it, read it, and then put its teachings into practice, the world would undoubtedly be a better place. Having been a fan of Holiday’s works for several years, I can’t help but wish that they would be adapted into a curriculum for K12 students.

Ok maybe I should stick to novels
While very informative and thought-provoking, I think this just was not my cup of tea, but it is worth reading. I just think I should stick to novels.

    Inspiring
Ryan Holiday is a talented writer and in this book we brings out the message of the Stoics; which was basically live a good and honorable life. And Ryan gives plenty of real-life people doing the right thing as they lived their lives.

My last Ryan Holiday Book For a While
This is likely my last Ryan Holiday book I will be buying. I have been a huge fan of Ryan’s other books on Stocism going back to “The Obstacle is the Way”. I can honestly say they have changed my life for the better. With his most recent book in his Stoic Virtues Series, it feels like he has gone back to the same well too many times. While the focus of this book in theory is justice, it goes back to many of the same figures we have read about in other books with only a slightly different twist. A lot of the newer characters have obviously been included to add some more diversity to the mix. Overall, I found myself struggling to get through this book. By the end, we get a short bit about many of Ryan’s personal beliefs that he can’t see to let go like Trump and COVID. More than other books, you get this sprinkled throughout as well. If you have followed Ryan outside of his books, he’s taken a turn on several controversial topics that most of his readers don’t align with. (This is the second draft of this review, the first one got rejected because I specifically mentioned some of his positions and Amazon claimed that violated community guidelines). In my opinion, this is the weakest of his books.

    Simple but good
Great book on justice. It’s about how doing the right thing, IS the right thing. The chapters are short and to the point. The points are very simple, mostly based on high morals, integrity, and being selfless. Ryan does a great job explaining his points and motivating you to be a better person.

Ryan Holiday is a brilliant author and with his new book “Right thing, right now” he shows us that again. The virtue of Justice is so extremely important that you should have such a book with you particularly in this modern world.

As a long time fan of Ryan Holiday, having all his books from the Stoic virtues series, this one was my first let down. The author gets increasingly political and pushes agendas such as accepting all refugees/migrants from Africa/Middle East, even though he’s American and it’s fair to say that he doesn’t have to live with this problem on everyday basis, unlike us, Europeans. It’s easy to say ‘just take them all’ and feel morally superior while sitting on the other side of Atlantic. Another thing the author is supporting is Israel and its political history. I will leave this for everyone’s individual consideration. The views on these extremely difficult matters are very simplified.

This is Ryan’s best book so far. I’d found myself slipping after a series of setbacks and wanted to ‘find my way home;’ feeling somewhat lesser as a person than I had been. This amazing book is doing that for me – and I’ve only reached chapter 3! I’m recommending it to organisations who let me down [as a whistle-blower]. Great content, very apt examples and very clear. I like the format, which you can easily hold in your hand. The chapters are short enough to read before bed without overwhelming, each focussed on a different aspect. I’m glad I invested in this. I also treated myself to the gorgeous leather-bound edition of the Daily Stoic, which is my daily bible.
