Not a magic bullet but definitely a game-changer
On the surface this book seemed like it was going to be like many others in its genre – “do this one simple thing I invented and all your problems will be solved!”However, it is a safe bet you have issues (or imbalances) in your hips, and that does logically move up the chain. I have massive cervical issues that start with uneven hips. So I was happy to see that acknowledged. The other stretches that have helped with my neck issues weren’t new to me, but holding them for 2 minutes rather than a somewhat rushed 30 seconds made a HUGE difference for me.Adding the suggested stretches to my day has definitely helped with my neck issues, though not solved them, but to be fair, I should take more breaks during workday spent in front of a computer. I was going to the chiropractor for cervical misalignment about twice a week, now I’m down to once or twice a month. Perhaps more importantly, I feel like I have a measure of control over my pain that I haven’t had before. When I am in pain now I don’t get all dark about it immediately, I just start doing extra sets of the stretches, knowing that will bring some measure of relief. That’s actually a big deal.Everyone promises a simple, easy way to feel better. This delivers. You just have to do it.

Great concept, need more modified exercises
I watched Lee on PBS and was immediately drawn to what he said . I bought the book immediately , read it , and put it in action. I definitely think it can work. My only disappointment is that there are not more modified exercises. There are some I really need , like for the hip, but they require you to lie on the floor, which I can’t do because I can’t get back up due to bad arthritis in my knees and feet. That is the reason for 4 stars instead of 5 .

This Has Helped Me a LOT!
I can’t understand the poor reviews of this book that say the illustrations aren’t good or the exercises are hard to understand!I too saw Lee Albert on PBS and was so impressed! It made me curious enough to buy this book, read it and try the exercises. I had no problems understanding it, the exercises are easy to do and gentle, which is wonderful! I can do just a few of them and feel some relief already. Sticking to doing them 2 or 3 times a day is hard…..but that’s MY problem, not the writer’s fault! I am so thankful I saw him and got the book! It’s the only thing that’s helped my chronic neck and back issues!!! Thank you Lee Albert!!!

Too general
If you have complicated musculoskeletal issues, this may be too basic for you as it was for me. Iâm donating it to the library. The Trigger Point Relief workbook by Amber Davies is much more helpful, in my opinion.

Enjoy your yoga. Say good-bye to pain.
Love this book! It is a do it yourself guide to free your body from pain and limited movement. Simple to use, well organized, no fluff and straight to the point. For many years I suffered from pain in my right SI joint, groin area and hip. When seated in cross legged position my right knee was at a 45 degree angle with a painful pull in the groin area and an ache in my hip. NO FUN. Tried physical therapy, chiropractic adjustments, myofascial release and massage. Nothing really worked. My fate took a turn when I tried the relax and stretch exercises from Appendix I along with the stretches from Appendix B of this book. My relief was immediate. The most productive exercise for me was the isometric abductor stretch. What a difference! In a matter of days my right knee went all the way to the ground when seated in cross legged easy pose. I continue to practice most exercises on a regular basis to maintain my newly acquired pain-free range of motion.Thank you Lee for sharing your knowledge. Now, I do not depend on anyone to “fix me”, I can do it myself!

Great wisdom from a master teacher
I was so happy to hear that Lee Albert had finally written a book on his Positional Therapy technique! I’ve been waiting for this for years, and the book definitely delivers… easy to read and understand with great visual guidelines to follow. It is amazing the therapy you can do for yourself and the healing that can occur!I have been privileged to be both a client of Lee’s where he worked his “magic” on my low back and hips, and then I went on to take his first level of Positional Therapy out at Kripalu Center. He also helped my ex with his hip when he was told he had to have immediate surgery. The one treatment he had from Lee gave him another 6 months, pain-free before he finally had to have a hip replacement surgery. I know my ex was amazed by this and so grateful — he ended up doing the training also. Now so many others can benefit from this wisdom, even if they can’t get to Lee in person! Thanks for putting it all down in writing!

One criticism of this book is that the author says that many of the problems with the joints and skeleton of the body are due to muscle imbalances, where one muscle is too long and overstretched, and the opposing muscle is too short. What the author fails to discuss is how the reader can determine whether a muscle is too long or too short, which is necessary to know in terms of treatment, since short muscles are treated differently than long muscles. I was also thinking it is possible the perhaps BOTH opposing muscles could be short, or BOTH the opposing muscles could be overstretched, but the author does not discuss these cases. A second criticism on the book is that the author does not discuss any treatment for where the ligaments on the exterior side of the shin, in the lower leg, is sore and tight. Many people have this problem and I wished the author had discussed a treatment for it. A third criticism of the book is that is highly repetitious when it comes to the Wellness section in each chapter. Each chapter repeats almost identical information in the Wellness section. In each chapter on a particular ailment, only specific comments to each ailment should be discussed in the wellness section of that chapter, and then there should be a general chapter on the subject of Wellness. If the book were condensed in this way, the book would perhaps have half the number of pages that it currently has.On the positive side, the book has lots of useful information in it, and if the reader finds even one piece of information that is useful in treating his particular problem, then buying the book is worth it.

I watched Lee Albert on PBS showing a foot stretch and talk about opposite stretching. At the time I suffered (again) from metatarsalgia and needed a cortison shot. Couldn’t get one due to covid. I followed his stretches, and low and behold my foot pain vanished. About 5 weeks ago I got muscle spasms and something locked up in my lower back. It was unbearable. Nothing worked. So last week I looked up his website and came across quad stretches which I do 4 times daily. I also received this book last Friday. I immediately did the half frog stretch since, and things are totally losening up. But the funny thing is, my good right hip/pelvis was so painful when I stretched. After three days I’m on the mend. The book is easy to read and understand, and repitition is good in my senior opinion. It will stick, like a tv commercial. Previous physio has never helped me. I have both hips replaced and have osteo and rheumatoid arthritis. His integrated approach is so simple, makes sense and very effective if you continue on a daily basis. Thank you Mr. Albert.
