Wonderful Anti-Bullying Lesson
This book is very engaging and relatable for the young ones. Rory the Ram is a bully to the smaller sheep until one day, he himself has his fur sheared and becomes small like the other ones. It’s a great lesson on teaching others how you would like to be treated yourself. The illustrations are beautiful and add to the story. My niece had no problem following along. The rhyming was nice but there were definitely a few areas where we came up with some more practical rhymes.We hope the author writes more similar books because this is a great way to teach kids about bullying and other life lessons! Happy to have this book in my collection.

I love to see what other authors do for their childrenâs books as I would like to write some of my own. This book is very engaging with the rhyming and the adorable pictures. Perfect for little kids. I hope to make something similar as I develop my bookmaking skills. In the story it says Rory learned a lot about bullying from his sisters but didnât give any particulars it would be nice to have had a few more scenes with exactly what they tell him as it might bring the Message home even more.

A cute short story for young children that helps to reinforce how bullying is bad. I liked almost everything about this book, and I would say it works for its intended audience. The illustrations are wonderful. I felt the story to be just the right length and will surely keep most kids’ attention long enough for a one-sitting read. It is also good to start the conversation to discuss bullying further, why it is bad, and how to deal with it. My only concern is that I felt the rhyming could have been tightened up a bit.

I love this book, and I also loved another book by the same author (‘Larry the Lizard-Don’t Lie!’). This book cleverly simplifies what it is to be a bully. At first Rory, the bully, is mean to the young lambs who are scared of him. Then Rory goes through a moment of realisation once the lambs grow up and are just as big as he is. There is a levelling moment when the sheep are all sheared and it turns out he’s not as big as he thought he was! He sees the error of his ways and tries to make up for his mean ways from the past. A good message and beautifully illustrated with clever rhyme.

I couldn’t resist the pun in the title here of this fantastic little picture book! Rory the Ram Don’t Bully is a story about bullying and how he loses his power over the flock when the bully is truly revealed (as happens when Rory the Ram is shorn). This is a fantastic transformation story, where Rory is seen for who he really is, a sheep like any other. The rhymes are sweet and appropriate and the illustrations are terrific. I loved seeing a kookaburra sitting on a fence, and other Aussie icons like corrugated iron sheds etc. The author, Dominic Whitehand, is originally English, but he brings the larrikin spirit of Australia to this anti-bullying story. The touches of humour will appeal to kids and also provide a great platform for a discussion on bullying.
