A great read for Runners and overcoming injuries and illness.
Excellent book! I loved it! I was watching the Women’s Marathon during the Paris Olympics while reading Des Linden’s book. I’m also 8 weeks into physical therapy healing from a knee injury. I could not only feel Des’ pain but I could also feel her passion for the sport that she (we) love! My next Half Marathon is a month away and “Choosing to Run” is exactly what I needed to help me push through with hope and determination that I will meet my goal. But if I don’t race next month, Des Linden’s mantra of “Right foot! Left foot! Repeat!” will help me make it to the next Start line. I’m looking forward to meeting the author at the Every Woman’s Marathon in November in Savannah.

Cool inside view into elite running
I really enjoyed this boom. Quick read and really interesting. I love running which made me enjoy it all the more. The only reason its not 5 stars is because it was challenging to follow the timeline.

She’s Playing the Game Her Own Way!
I read Choosing To Run in two sittings- it’s that good. Des Linden is a national treasure of a runner and she let’s the reader have a peek into her very private world in this book. Her Boston win is the stuff of legends- off the charts bad weather, selfless good sportsmanship, and a very private health concern all culminating with the win of her dreams. Wow. You can’t make that stuff up.
In Choosing To Run Des Linden tells us about what brought her to that historic point in her life. Her childhood in a working class family clearly gave her a unique perspective of the world. Des can spot phonies, liars, and snobs and knows how to keep herself true to herself and avoid those pitfalls. She writes about her college life and the lasting impact her friendship with Amy Cragg had on her. And, Linden’s professional running career had no blueprint for her to follow as it is clear that she did the best that she could to make decisions that would be beneficial to her core beliefs while still meeting her contractual obligations. Hopefully the Hanson brothers and Brooks continue to nurture their relationship with Linden because she absolutely put them on the map.
If you’re a runner or someone who loves a great sports-genre story I highly recommend this title. Linden and her co-author do a great job of making this easy to read and to keep the reader wanting more. I really applaud Des Linden for putting her story out there while at the same time not selling her soul by oversharing. I hope that this is not her last book because who knows what this innovative runner will be up to in the years to come, and whatever it is I will want to read about it.

Couldn’t put it down; great read!

The book started with page 6 which is deliberately glued with the Hardcover. No Prologue, No index, No beginning.
Someone has tampered with the book.

Well written story of her background and the running of the 2018 Boston Marathon. I ran that day so I know what the conditions were like and the way Des ran was heroic. Only other comment is that the finish of the book felt rushed.
