Great history book for you youth
As a retired history instructor for over 26 years, I am constantly looking at new material that I would use if I were still teaching. A topic sadly missing in many of our schools is the study of our own history. This book focuses on one area, the American Civil War. It does a great job of discussing the issues before, during, and after the war in a way that will create an engagement with students. I highly recommend this book.

Excellent! Places the Civil War in context
I consider myself something of a Civil War buff, but I learned from this excellent overview. Chapters on women in the war and on Reconstruction were especially informative, as was the conclusion which tied the war to the Civil Rights movement 100 years later. Provided just enough political context, especially with respect to the views of foreign nations. Highly recommended as a high school level history text or supplementary resource.

perfect for kids and parents
My two teenagers are in high school, and I found this civil war book to be perfect for them. It’s packed with interesting facts, but thankfully, it doesn’t have any gory details. The writing is excellent, and the artwork is impressive. Plus, it’s well-organized.

Just the right amount of detail for young readers!
This book is just right for young readers: the length of chapters is good, the level of detail is right on the mark, and the illustrations are very good. However, I could not find who the illustrator was, that would be nice to know. I also enjoyed the “Did You Know” section at the end of each chapter, listing bullet points that are fun facts about the chapter subject. I homeschooled for many years, sure wish I had this book when my kids were 5-7 graders! Thanks for a great Civil War review!

This is in my opinion, a poor and over priced book with even the cover showing inaccuracies.The book is as the title, for young readers but it is full of mistakes and draws on popular mistakes surrounding the civil war.The book is printed in UK by amazon and is flimsy and becomes “dog eared” quickly and as mentioned earlier, overpriced.It is a shame as when on ebay, you can purchase good quality, hard back books on this conflict for half the price.Not recommended, amazon I would expect better from you.
