Good resource, flawed in itâs thinking
Hereâs the thing about this book- it definitely does what it says it does- breaks down the grammatical rules. The issue, however, is that this book explicitly refers to STANDARD AMERICAN ENGLISH (SAE)- which is also fine- itâs the dialect taught in the classroom. However, what is absolutely NOT OK is the language it uses to describe grammatical productions that may be considered correct in other dialects of English (AAVE, for example). They refer to examples such as âa broke dishâ as âembarrassingâ and âsubstandard Englishâ.The book does not talk about dialects at all- perpetuating the myth that SAE is the only âcorrectâ form of English. It is not. ALL DIALECTS are considered to be âcorrectâ. The dialects have their own rules, just like SAE does. That is my qualm about this book.Like I said- it does a great job of teaching the grammatical rules- of SAE. No dialect is âbetterâ than the other. This kind of thinking leads to a lot of shame and ridicule of people who are exposed to other dialects.Thanks

Grammar Update.
I am a retired school teacher. Because of the internet, grammar laws are changing, and I like to keep up with the updates. For instance, I came across a writer saying that another writer was using out dated grammar by typing two spaces after each sentence. He called it unnecessary and wasteful.

Decent Content. Not enough. Book is huge!
I’ve been looking for a good grammar resource that I can carry with me and use when writing wherever I happen to be. This book has some good grammar content, but it’s not thorough enough for me. The huge size of it makes it even more unusable to me. There’s no need for it to be a huge, thin book. I would much rather it be the size of a normal paperback and a bit thicker than to have it be this huge book that just isn’t convenient to carry or to put on my bookshelf. It sticks out well beyond all the other books on the shelf. I guess I’m just going to have to keep looking for that perfect grammar resource. This isn’t it.

La calidad del producto es buena como completo para mis clases de inglés,ya que hay unas cosas importantes que aveces los profesores se suelen saltar.El libro es muy compacto y la información es muy precisa por lo que no creo que se tenga problemas al momento de buscar información como en otros libros de inglés, como pueden ver en el Ãndice abarca gramática, puntuación y palabras homónimas que aveces se pueden confundir y lo mejor es que al final existe una sección de quizzes donde se podrá repasar cada uno de los capÃtulos del libro, es entendible que sea de los libros más vendidos en el campo del inglésPor último debo decir que lo único malo es el cuidado de los envÃos en amazon, me ha tocado suerte que algunos libros vienen protegidos pero no este caso no me toco la suerte, regularmente no vienen con protección vienen sueltos en el empaque creo que deberÃan considerarlo si lo piensan comprar lo bueno es que si les llega muy dañado pueden realizar su devolución o reemplazo ,como fue un detalle menor de golpe no me importo mucho.
