Exceptional and Inspiring
This book reads well for Fuddy Daddy’s like me. It’s a kick in the ass for those who need it, or a validation for those who took the road less traveled by. The hard way is often the best way if you have the guts to try it. What does that mean? That means having a plan, discipline, courage and balls bigger than the ones that dangle. If you fail, fail spectacularly. Big whup. Get out and enjoy nature. Walks for the sake of walks; hikes for that same reason. Nature and sustained efforts in it come back to you ten fold. This book will convince you of that.

Probably the most thought prevoking book I read in 2024.
The Comfort Crisis by Michael Easter is a thought-provoking, inspiring read that challenges us to rethink our daily routines and comfort zones. Easter dives into how our modern, convenient lifestyles can lead to stagnation and unhappiness, and he provides a refreshing perspective on the value of embracing discomfort to unlock our true potential. I really like the “misogi challenge” that is mentioned in the book as something that you grow as a result of doing it but its unmeasured or trainable in nature.Overall, The Comfort Crisis is an inspiring read for anyone looking to challenge themselves, find deeper purpose, and reclaim a sense of adventure. Itâs a powerful reminder that sometimes, growth starts just outside our comfort zones. It does not come off overtly “Bro’ish” and is a well designed book that gives new perspective to daily norms

My thoughts
Ok, here goes. The author did an excellent job exposing the reader to a vast gamut of people that expouse not being comfortable, but exposing oneself to deliberate discomfort. I totally agree with all the interviews here…these discomforts help us to grow and be more resilient. But I did wanted to add my two cents here, and I’m sure I’ll receive flack. Page after page in this book, the theory of evolution is preached. I respectfully disagree wholeheartedly. Just take this as an example… the eagle. While the eagle was “evolving” at some stage in its primordial past, wings were “evolving” or forming. So were its eyes and talons. So tell me, how the nheck did it fly or see to catch prey…Unless… It was a fully functioning and developed creature. The point is, it couldn’t.Folks, we DO have a creator. But thanks again Michael for the excellent read and page turner.

This book is one of the best things I’ve read in a long time. A game-changer even. Eye-opening (and concerning) perspectives on things like busyness vs boredom (creativity), technology vs nature, noise vs silence, santization vs immunity, indulgence vs hunger, fasting and cell renewal. A nice mix of story-telling and scientific data show how far our comfortable states have come from generations past, how so many of them are detrimental to us, and how we need to reverse course in a sense by getting (very) uncomfortable.
