Excellent intro/overview into Shooting. Light on exhaustive details, heavy on visuals.
If you are expecting a fully comprehensive manual, this isn’t it. That is what the book title infers, but I assume they are expecting the shooting community to be smarter than the average idiot of our society who is looking to be offended. This book is an excellent overview or introduction into a wide variety of shooting/hunting sports. It has a wide range of useful, if brief information on a lot of topics. Lots of historical infographics and gear photos make it very easy to read and re-read.If you are new to shooting or just like to pique your interest into parts of the shooting world you’ve never examined, this is the book for you. I really enjoyed it for the first 30 minutes I read through it before I wrote this review. I plan to read every word eventually. Do I know a lot of it already? yes. Did I learn something already that I was always curious about? Yes.If, however, you are a know-it-all gun snob who just can’t stop running down anyone who didn’t pay at least 10K for their precision rifle…you may want to look elsewhere. Unless you can choke back your elitism and actually look for information you might not have already known. That may be asking too much. I have several of the Outdoor Life book series. This one is a good one to add to your collection.Summary: if an very visual, well illustrated overview of shooting sports is interesting to you, you will enjoy this book.

It brings the reader/ shooter into the next level of skill and clearly expresses the message into easily translated understanding. The book has many pictures to aid you and clarifies many concepts. It is all expressed in an easy to understand platform and covers most all types and directions a shooter or hunter may want to cover; hunting, tactical, target, competition and self defense. An excellent read. Obviously aimed at the American market, but the principles of shooting are international, so apart from a long section all about the AR15 variants which wasn’t very relevant to me in the UK, this was a really good and interesting read. I particularly liked the breakdown of the developments and attributes of various calibres. Worth keeping as a reference for the future too.
