Well illustrated. Doesn’t read like a textbook. Good information on species, distribution, feeders, attractive plants, etc. The book makes it clear you won’t see these birds unless you’re in the Southwest.

Great book, but maybe overkill if you live east of the Mississippi
My kids purchased the book for my wife for Mother’s day along with a humming bird feeder. The book has great pictures and tons of information. But one of the things we learned is that if you live in the eastern half of the US, it is pretty much just Ruby Throated humming birds. So a lot of the material was not applicable to us. Still, for the cost we thought it was worth it. The plan is to pass the book on to others in the family and then eventually to a friend out west. It has already been passed on to my parents, and will keep going from there. It is not a book we need to keep long term, but was a great way to get more appreciation for the visitors we get.

This is a beautifully illustrated handbook. I purchased the Paperback, a very solid book with heavy paper pages and great information about more hummingbirds than I knew existed. How to attract them and use proper care in feeding them. A very good investment.

Got the kindle version as it was at a toddler price.Not truly extensive or exhaustive, but gives the reader a broad overview of the commoner hummers – as the Americans call them.Some great photos and the text gives useful advice for seeing them and guides you through feeders to attract them as well as distribution maps.If I was based in the Americas, I would make it my aim to see every 350+species. They are stunning creatures, but as I live in the UK and seen only three species in the States, I can only dream….If you have never seen any hummingbird in all its glory or just vaguely interested, this book is a good start
