Great book for hockey lovers
Filled with great hockey stories, it brought me back to my days as a kid as I read along with my son. My childhood hero was Mario Lemieux, and to see my kid take an interest in some of my greatest memories was a lot of fun! The author does a great job of capturing some of the best stories and players from hockey history while at the same time including diverse representation, including important stories and contributions to the game from women and minority athletes. The one thing missing that would have made the book better was pictures. It was okay for me as the adult who could paint a mental picture and knew the players – it would have helped my son’s reading experience. We just Googled the players and stories as we went along to get some pictures.

Inspiration to any fan, aspiring or active player!
While everyone admires greatness, this book digs into what makes these players stand out both on and off the ice – characteristics such as: Triumph of the human spirit, hard work, determination and coaching capable of taking on the worldâs best team. Rigorous training, learning to work together as a team, trusting one another, and believing in themselves. It addresses tough issues a number of the players faced such as breaking the glass ceiling, overcoming racism and advancing inclusion as well as giving back to the community and philanthropy. Resilience in overcoming injuries and other setbacks – achieving excellence: Improve, Learn, Adapt. What it takes to lead a team to the playoffs and in earning a Gold medal: The importance of values such as dedication to physical and mental health, deep love of the game, and the impact on others, precision, sportsmanship, and a competitive spirit.Itâs presented in short, concise chapters perfect for young readers. And, if you arenât already a fan, this book is a persuasive testimonial.

Interesting, diverse stories
These are interesting and diverse hockey stories but the text is too redundant. I often felt like I was rereading a paragraph but it was just the same information written in a different way. If you removed the redundant paragraphs it would be much improved upon.

Fun book to share with the kids!
I loved it! It was great to share the story of the American team vs the Soviet Union with my son. The story, in any form, makes me tear up every time, so I have been looking forward to reading about it with my kids. All the stories were fun and informative for a kid just learning about hockey.

Fun and casual, particularly good for those who donât know hockey!
I got this book since my young son is getting started in hockey and I realized that while being a very casual fan fir years, I didnât really know much of the game! (ie. who is Bobby Orr?) This a casual exposure to some of the history of hockey, the players and teams that have made it a great game. Recommend!

Very good facts
Valuable information, very good facts and the only thing I miss is the visual part with photos. Otherwise, it’s well written.

The stories were well selected for their interest and highlighted lots of positive values relating to sport like perserverance and dedication. Some of the ideas were repeated in the text unnecessarily, which detracted from my enjoyment of an otherwise well-written book.
