This Science of Reading Decodable book is a great time saver for any teacher, homeschooler, or parent wanting to work on reading with their kids. This book works on consonant blends which is sometimes difficult for students. As a former teacher and homeschool mom I appreciate having all the words and activities ready to go – a great time saver. I wish that this book included a scope and sequence so that I knew what the author intended to have been taught before this book and what the other books would teach. Just knowing the order that was recommended for use would be very helpful. Other than a few typos or mistakes this is a great resource for teaching kids to read.

Nice decodable book with lots of phonics practice
I like this book and it has a great idea for early readers to learn through the science of reading. I love the definitions and beginning parts of the book helping teachers, parents, readers understand phonemic awareness, decoding and the importance of these skills in learning to become a good reader. However, I feel there are some flaws in this for true beginner readers especially in the first lessons of this book. There are site/instant words and words with “units.” Units are a later skill and cannot be sounded out without knowing the rules. I also do not like the use of blends in the first lessons, which makes it more difficult and does not follow an easy progression to phonics.
