Smaller than other Smithsonian hardcovers
The photos are gorgeous. The information provided in the book is absolutely wonderful. I was, however, disappointed to see the book is smaller than others in the âSecrets ofâ¦â Smithsonian books. The books in this series rely heavily on up-close photography and the large images are what make these books interesting/unique. Oh well.

Compared to the previous books of the “The Science of…”-series this one is the weakest. It’s smaller than the other books and the topics are less clearly explained. After reading a chapter, you dont feel like having too much of an understanding of the topic. I think that the explanations in the other installments of the series were more accessible. On its own the book is still very good, just a little bit of a let down in the context of the series.
