An important story from World War II
The Twins on the Train is an important story about the Kindertransports during World War II and how they saved thousands of children from the terrors, horrors and death under Nazi rule. Read what it must have been like for parents and other relatives to give up their children to go to England in particular to escape the threats and deprivation the people were faced with. The Quakers were the backbone of this effort to save the children, and this story is a testament to their accomplishments in the face of cruel Nazi leaders and soldiers. This is a must-read story about an important aspect of what was happening under Nazi rule.

An Unforgettable World War Two Novel
This novel starts in the pre World War Two years in Germany. The story begins in 1933 and continues on into 1943. There are two main characters and one is a German seamstress from Berlin. Her name is Rosa Goldberg . She is a Jewish mother and wife and skillful dress maker. Her husband Josef is a taylor who owns a successful business . Her daughter’s name is Theresa and she is five years old at the story’s beginning. The other main character is Dora and she is an English lady who works for the Quakers in England. She is married to Hugh, a Doctor and they don’t have any children. Dora’s job takes her out of England to Germany where she and a coworker help in a humanitarian effort to accompany Jewish German children by train out of Germany to be fostered to English families until the persecution of Jews in Germany comes to an end. The twins of course are Josef and Esther Goldberg. Rosa their Mother gives birth to them during the horrors of the Second World War years. The future of any Jew in Germany at this time was uncertain so in an act of love the mother runs to the train station and hands a basket to Dora and immediately leaves. The story starts out slowly but each chapter is important. I was soon swept off into the book and felt like I was there with Rosa and Dora. I felt that the book was expertly written and the research was very well done. In the Authors notes she provides information on where she got her information from. It’s different from other World War Two books which made this book unique. My heart grieved for the Jewish people and how they were treated by their oppressors . I’m glad I took the opportunity to read this novel.Readers of Historical Fiction and World War Two novels will love this story. It’s scheduled for release on 10/30/24. It can be read as a standalone.I voluntarily read an advanced readers copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions expressed here in this review are entirely my own.#TheTwinsontheTrain #NetGalley

    Not my fave but good
This isn’t my favorite book by this author but it was still good. It started as if it would be a time slip, but it isn’t. It did go back and forth between Berlin and London. It was strange too because an old woman is going to tell her story. She starts by saying she doesn’t actually know the story. But then we are told the story.

    Incredible Story
What an incredible story based on true events. I had absolutely no idea how much of a role the Quakers had and honestly have heard very little about the Kindertransports. This is one of those reviews that is so hard to write because there is so much that I enjoyed it’s impossible to pick out specific things. I didn’t even highlight quotes because I was so engrossed with the book. That doesn’t happen often. The only thing I suppose that I didn’t love was the prologue and epilogue. I don’t think this book needed an introduction to take us into the past. This is such a unique and important novel. I can’t wait to read more from this author. And I hope to find a few more books about the kindertransports, I’m really interested to learn more.I think I heard once in passing that there were trains evacuating kids before the deportation trains, but I had no idea the extent of it. I have learned so much more about Germany and surrounding countries at that time in the last several years and most of what I’ve learned through most of my life has been through books, which I do not take at face value because I read fiction, so I do my own research when I come across something new and interesting that I hadn’t heard of before. Very little has been false, that I have come across, and most authors add an explanation at the end of the book about where they took liberties and why.

Absolutely enthralling every word was riveting—what a wonderful organisation the Quakers were for all the transports they organised and all the children that were saved. We are apt to forget the silent heroes/heroines that operated during those dark times. Please write your new novel soon.i

Really like the way the plot goes from one personal story to the other and back again, makes it all the more real knowing what dangerous times they were caught up in. Raises questions of courage and integrity too.An excellent and engrossing piece read.

A heartwarming story of one woman’s selflessness and another’s compassion in the lead up to World War two. I was immensely moved by Rosa’s plight and full of admiration for Dora’s benevolence, as well as the amazing work done by the Quakers. Books like this are so important as they remind us that even in the darkest of times there is always humanity and hope. I strongly recommend this novel.
