Fat loss and health simplified without gimmicks
I’ve followed Ben on social media for months after finding his posts and videos to be informative — and entertaining. His commonsense intelligence and expertise cuts through the fad diet noise. He’s direct, well-informed, science-based, authentic, articulate, and has a no-gimmick approach. He shares information about metabolism, health and fitness in a simple way and makes complex information easy to understand. He’s genuine in his desire to share accurate tips and advice and debunk all the flashy and usually dangerous weight loss industry hoopla. This book is for regular people and those of us who seriously invest in our health to use as a guide — it’s grounded and realistic. Online, he responds to popular ads and social media “gurus” whose advice is neither healthy nor sustainable for most of us in the long run. Also he’s bloody funny. I’m a fellow Brit (in the US) and appreciate his conversational style. So thrilled he has a book out as I wanted to take notes on his advice to incorporate into my health plan. This is a great book. He’s kind of grassroots, sincere, and self-published this and seems shocked at the amazing response so far! Humble guy who deserves his success. He really wants to help others get healthier. Well done, Coach Ben!

Should be required reading in high school health class
This is the only book about weight loss that anyone should read. It should be required reading in high school health and every doctor should have to read it. Not only is the research impeccable and the citations are around forty pages, but it’s life changing and eye opening.
He looks deeply at studies and he explains what they actually mean. He goes into detail about the flaws in studies and he also looks at a lot of reviews where they are going over tons of studies about a subject. He breaks everything down in a way that is understandable. He also cut through the nonsense.
He shows you how studies will be manipulated or even misinterpreted and then The diet industry will use it in an inappropriate way. To say that this is the way to lose weight or that is the way for the best fat loss
The net result is that any diet will help you lose weight? But which one will help you actually maintain? He tackles that crucial question with kindness, common sense, and actual science instead of manipulated science.
This book was very healing for me after battling a lifetime of disordered eating and an unhealthy relationship with food. I feel armed with real information and I feel like I can finally lose weight in a way that I will be able to maintain. The best thing is he doesn’t prescribe a certain diet. He gives you all the information and then you find what works for you. But you are armed with facts and you know the pitfalls.
I cannot recommend this book highly enough. Everyone should read this book.

    Great information
As the title say, a very “no bull s***” explanation to Fat Loss. Very informative book with scientific proven data from different studies and meta-analysis papers. If you want to make long lasting change in your health and/or weight loss journey, this book is a great place to start. The diet culture that we are living in has made me so fearful of so many things (from the food I eat, to the way i look at myself); this book has helped me got over some of these fears by busting some of the popular myths that are circling out there. Highly recommend this book!

Great content, but a LOT of content!
As expected, this book is full of great – and rational – advice on fat loss (and all of the other things that impact it). I wish this had been available 20 years ago, as I could have avoided the yo-yo dieting cycle entirely. If you’re overwhelmed by all of the conflicting information being presented by so-called “health experts” (i.e., people that want to sell their *special* products), this is the book for you.
What I love most about the way the author presents information is that it is unbiased, unemotional, and grounded in cited research. It’s very easy to let our emotions cloud our judgment (as it’s much easier to believe that someone’s magical product will help us get to our goals more quickly than to acknowledge that the slow, healthy approach is better for our overall and long-term health).
It’s a LONG read, but each chapter is summarized nicely at the end (I recommend starting with those, and then digging into the details for areas of specific interest – just to avoid getting overwhelmed).

The fitness industry needs more voices like Ben’s.
I’ve lost over half my body weight in the past few years. This is the book I wish I’d had when I started. It’s a compilation of all the lessons I’ve had to learn on my own and it’s presented with a level of compassion and understanding that most overweight people have never been on the receiving end of. When people ask for my advice, or ask me “what’s my secret” I tell them to check out Ben’s instagram account and buy this book.
This is not your typical fat loss book. Ben starts out by encouraging you to examine your reasons for wanting to lose fat and whether that’s even the right goal for you. He then digs deep into the science of fat loss and shares findings from peer reviewed studies on different interventions like fasting, cardio, keto, etc. He doesn’t claim to have one trick that will work for everybody, because he understands that different things work for different people. This book is about giving everyone the tools they need to figure out what works best for them, based on the latest scientific evidence. It’s incredibly detailed and one of the best resources I’ve ever seen.

Update: I have finished reading this book and I am even more impressed than at the 3/4 mark. The last few chapters touched on some concepts that are often used in weight loss (how much hydrations does one need, for example) and puts those in context of diets Further, Ben discusses the research behind these concepts which really helped me to understand why or why not the concept was important.
I liked how each chapter had a “take away” and how to action the ideas in my own life. This is exceptionally empowering from my point of view. Essentially I have been able to take various concepts from the different chapters and put them to work for me, and feel really good about the choices I am making.
Ben’s stated objectives for the book are documented in one of the last chapters. He aimed to provide well researched, balanced writing, to give people tools to make the changes that work for them to improve their health. I feel that Ben not only achieved this objective, but really surpassed it by leaps and bounds.
As much as I’d like to pass this book along to someone else for their benefit, I am keeping it as a ready reference guide in case I am ever distracted by the latest trend in diet culture. I will recommend this book to anyone considering a diet aimed at losing weight.
Each chapter focusses on a different topic and reviews the claims made by various diets, using well researched, balanced reporting. The statements, summaries and conclusions are all properly cited and you can see the official source of each, so that you know that this is science and research based.
Ben has a very readable style, and presents complex science and data in a way that is straightforward and easy to understand.
I particularly like the end of each section that summarizes the “take aways” and how the information can be put to use in your daily routine.
There is no “miracle diet” in this book. Instead the information presented helps the reader find what works for them and their situation and preferences. Ben describes ways that the reader can really use what they have learned. There is a noticeable lack of sensationalism, and I appreciate that very much!
One very useful part of Ben’s writing and editing is that when he makes a statement that he has discussed in length earlier in the book, he puts the page reference, not just the chapter reference. This takes more time to write and edit, and it makes “referring back” so much easier! I appreciate that a lot.
Ben also goes into subject areas not covered by most diet books and programs. He raises awareness about the relationship between dieting and emotional and mental health. I believe this could be a first of its kind in the popular literature, and I applaud Ben for shining a light on this very important topic.
There is a very positive vibe that has come from reading this book. And on top of that, Ben writes the way he speaks in his videos, which is both serious and whimsical and leaves the reader/ viewer feeling really good about things!!
I highly recommend! So much of this book resonates with me and I think others will find the same!!

Reading this book is helping me with my anxiety and helping me feel a little less guilty about those days when I just don’t have the energy/courage to go to the gym. Or just have a crisis that causes me to binge eat. It is helping me to feel that not everything is lost because of that.
HE IS THE BEST AND I AM SO GREATFULL TO HAVE FOUND HIM AND HIS BOOK!
Read the preview, you are going to want to read everything. It’s money well spent.
