Beautiful
This little volume is rich in content and presentation. The watercolors of Hesse are reproduced beautifully in a book that is bound like an old-school book. The quality is outstanding. I highly recommend it for a gift that will be treasured or for a personal treasure in your own library.

My favorite holiday gift
I love Hesse. I own everything I can find in various formats, including a stack of used copies I keep to give to others. This book is stunning. Beautiful format and production. Small enough to carry with me so I can get lost in the forest of imagination at any time. The translations are lovely. I’ll need to buy several copies for gifts. Lovely special book. It hasn’t found it’s way to the bookshelves yet. It will remain on the top of the stack in my living room for many months to come. I’ll return to it greatly appreciating the escape to the trees during the dark days of winter. Even if you are new to Hesse, or you are t a fan of the Nobel Prize winning author, anyone with any appreciation for nature will enjoy this book.

Enchanting and Inspiring
One of those very rare and special gems. Trees enchants and inspires towards a better, richer, fuller life.

A deeper understanding of Hesse
I found this to be an intimate journey exploring a side of the personal influences nature had on his life.

Poor quality painting reproductions
Most of the paintings are very small on already small pages, are not glossy, and many are even reproduced on a cream colored paper rather than white. The covers of my book are also bowed so that it does not lay flat on a table. Despite my passion for Hesse, I will donate this book because it is not worthy of keeping in a collection. It feels like something put together to make quick cash off of the authorâs name. Buy Hesseâs real works instead.

Tiny size. Great poetry and artwork.
This tiny book is only 5 by 7 and is very small for a book with pictures. Also the print is very small. The artwork is interesting and the poetry is also great.

Textos repletos de poesia.

A new book has come into my life, a true gift. I was so excited when I read the opening paragraph I knew it could not be kept in this home alone.”Trees, for me, have always been the most compelling preachers. I worship and adore them when they live in families and tribes, in forests and grovesâand even more when they stand alone. They are like solitary people. Not hermits who’ve stolen away from society out of some weakness, but great lonely people, like Beethoven or Nietzsche. The world rustles in their uppermost branches, their roots rest in the infinite, but they do not lose themselves in either, they work with all the strength of their lives toward just one thing: fulfilling their own law that lives within them, shaping their form, becoming their own selves. Nothing is more sacred, nothing more exemplary, than a strong and beautiful tree.”You may be surprised to hear that the author is Herman Hesse, and that the book, Trees: An Anthology of Writings and Paintings, has Hesse’s own paintings accompanying the text. One final note about the book proper; it is a hardback version, and beautifully designed throughout; just a perfect size to fit in the hand and fall from there into the lap while reading so one can dream. Finally, I don’t need a whole book to please me; often a few images or phrases well said, or a couple of lines in a poem that go straight through me, will do. But this first paragraph excites me so. Once again, a companion has come to my door, my home, my room, my life. A book called Trees made of trees, and an author’s love given freely in word and image to help the hours and days in this still shadowed time reveal the illuminated life within.

This is a beautiful book. Delightful to the touch. Quality paper. The binding feels wonderful. After properly and gently opening the book, I enjoy just flipping through the pages to savour the art. Beautiful words. Beautiful art. What a joy.

This is a beautiful collection of Herman Hesseâs prose, poetry and paintings on the subject of trees. He clearly had a reverence for nature, and trees in particular, which seems to have a very contemporary resonance. The book is fairly expensive but very tastefully, even exquisitely produced. If you share his passion for nature and have a love for great nature writing then I recommend this little book very highly. He makes you think and feel on every page.
