Awesome So Far
So far, I have read through the first section of the book, and we are now ready to start Week 1. There are many positive things I have to say, and we haven’t even gotten to the bulk of the plan yet.I really appreciate that the authors took the time to address everything possible before even getting parents ready for the plan: why your child is overweight, family environment, elements that must be in place in order to have success, breaking down fast food vs nutritious foods, making better choices, changing the parents’ lifestyles, physical activity, ect. Everything important is covered in an easy-to-read fashion. In fact, I found myself just highlighting so much. It really prepares parents for what lies ahead and how to make this program work for your child and the whole family.I also love the question and answer sections at the end of each chapter. These were exactly the questions I wanted answers to. My favorite part of the book are the real testimonials made by both children and parents. This is great to motivate me as a parent in this challenging time, but it also gives my daughter motivation and belief that this program will work, that she, too, can accomplish her goal.I feel like we are really prepared and that this isn’t just some “diet.” Now we start week one. My daughter is excited, and I feel prepared and capable. I will be posting more information and review as the weeks go by!

A Lot to read
I like this book because it has the meal plan and grocery list ready for you which makes it much easier. There is a lot to read but most of which I already knew. I would recommend this book but it is for the entire family to learn to eat better and make better choices. These meals are the norm now.

Good Information but Might Overwhelm Parents or Kids
The information in this book is very helpful. It provides a solid science based approached to helping children and families lead a healthier lifestyle and lose weight. I personally was an overweight child and my parents tried to help me with a variety of programs and diets even working with a dietitian. I just recently have won the battle with obesity and lost almost 100 lbs. I know work with others as a Lifestyle Coach to help them make healthy lifestyle choices. I purchased this book as reading for a Children’s Nutrition Certification. Again, the information is very good and the meal plans and recipes are helpful but I think the length and detail of it might overwhelm many people especially busy parents. The book is several hundred pages and is not organized or designed in the most approachable or pleasing manner. If you are willing to do lots of reading and are open to a more textbook style book this might be a great option for you. If you want a more approachable, simplified approach to starting on a journey to better food choices I’d suggest Eat This, Not That for Kids. It’s more of a magazine format, easier to read quickly and simple enough to get going very quickly. Plus the information on eating out is helpful for busy families. Again, it just depends on what you want and how deeply involved you plan to be…

A great resource for Kids’ Wellness
Although this was a required textbook for a certification course, I found this book a great resource. During this time we are facing a generation [or a few] of kids that are overweight, under-active, and incorrectly nourished. This book will walk anyone that want to help kids regain a healthier lifestyle. Since PE & playtime have been decreased [or in some areas cut] from schools across the country, this component in a child’s life must come from another place.I would recommend this book for anyone that just need a starting point. It gives weekly instructions that would not only benefit the child, but also the family. I plan to use this a guideline while working with my clients….

Trim Kids-It really works!
I purchased the Trim Kids book just to help my family eat healthier. I had the most trouble with menu planning. The menus in the book are great. We eat regualar food but we know the right portions so there is no over eating. My daughter is not extremely obese but she is over weight. She has lost 5 pounds in 5 weeks. I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to make a impact on your child’s health. Read the book before you start the program so you are familar with what you are doing! This book is awesome!

Very difficult to follow
At 400 pages of advice, this book is completely overwhelming and needlessly complex (blue group this, red chart that). Its lunch advice is wildly impractical (Soup and tuna sandwiches? My kids don’t have access to either a fridge or a microwave at school) as is its advice on how substituting water and veggies for foods the kids enjoy will avoid a “food war.” Very disappointing.

Very Informative
This book is very informative and gives lots of helpful advice to help kids and families get fit. We have not yet started the program but have added only a few of the ideas to our sons regimen and he has lost 3 lbs. Excited to get started for real.

Very good and makes so much sense. We as a family lost loads of weight. The problem is keeping to it, if you have a busy life it’s hard. But very good

Not worth the money , go for Rd Light Green Light weight loss for kids – this trim kids book is same old – same old – write everything you eat , big focus on exercise…. my 7 yr old isnât going to do this and a teen girl – this approach just feeds into food obsessions
