    Excellent resource
I was rather pleased to find that the “For Dummies” books on ukulele are very well written, easy to understand, and comprehensive. A great resource and guide for players of all skill levels. Price is reasonable considering the amount of information, but understand the paper it is printed on is of low quality, and the print, and thus the music sheets and tabs are in small font. You do have access to the audio tracks to help you with the lessons.

First impression: Very nice for intermediate players …
The book involves two downloads: the book itself via amazon, and the mp3 files corresponding to the exercises, via Wiley’s online place. I have no problems at all with any of them; both downloaded quickly, and it was very easy to find Wiley’s place. Also, I did not have any problem at all by dealing with the book, on the one hand, and the mp3 files, on the other one. Just by jumping from one to the other -a one click procedure- I was in business. Since I bought the book a few days ago, I don’t have the possibility of judging completely its contents. However, by examining two or three chapters, and by looking at specific items on several more chapters, I think the book is both engaging and a really nice tool to drive deeper your playing skills. It is the kind of book you will be working with for a long time. However, If you are an absolute beginner, there are probably better options for you. The only thing I did not like at all was the fact that the songs that involve lyrics are not sung by the author (he sings really nice: check his online videos). It would be nice to have both versions of the song: the music only version and the sung one. Particularly important since many of the potential buyers are foreigners and do not know the songs (my own situation). Maybe an early addition since it involves just adding a few mp3’s to the long list of 256 exercises? Not kidding, it would be a very welcome addition. In brief, if you play ukulele and want to improve your skills, just got this one!PS: one more thing: the book is completely readable and feels confortable in any of my devices (my android smartphone of 4.5″, as well as my android tablet of 10.1″ and my MacBook Pro).

    an all-encompassing course book
as the beloved ukulele enjoys a worldwide revival in recent years it doesn’t come as a surprise that a wide variety of teaching material has been published lately.i’d like to put the cart before the horse here:this book is well worth its money!now that is if:you are looking for an in-depth study starting if maybe not from the very beginning but @ a level where you almost do not need any musical knowledge, building up to a fairly good intermediate level. puhh- my bad 4 the run-on sentence ;-)the authors mcqueen/wood shed light on many different aspects of ukulele playing and it is a joy to work thru the greatly structured material.having read ALL the descriptions/reviews that are posted on this very page up to the 21st of may:YES- i totally agree on most all of them- the not so good one(s) i commented on.THIS is what you can expect.also nice to see the environmental prudence: the book comes printed on recycled paper 😉

Great book for beginners or anyone looking to improve technique
Great book for beginners or improvers. This book has got a great introduction and they cover all the basics. Before this, I taught myself some basic cords and some basic strum patterns. However, I’m really enjoying the practice exercises and the fact that this isn’t a read from beginning to end type of book. You can jump around based on what you need to work on including things like strum patterns for blues, how to read tablature, different fingerings, how to read the fretboard, and plucking technique. It really is a great book for thoroughly understanding the ukulele and playing in general. I’m looking forward to the practice exercises the book does include references for reading music rhythm and fingering patterns. I’m able to gain a better understanding of the fretboard in general and how to improvise when playing with others.I’d recommend this book to anyone trying to get started in the ukulele or anyone looking to improve a particular aspect of their playing. There aren’t any fingering charts that I see So I did have to pick up a book on cord fingering as well. Overall, this is highly recommended for anyone looking to get started or improve their playing. I’m looking forward to the practice section where I can improve my strumming technique.

This is different than the other Dummies book for Ukulele
They should really try to differentiate the two Ukulele for Dummies book, because this one is really good for people who are beyond basic beginner. It’s full of exercises for fingerpicking, strumming, chord changes, playing scales up and down the neck, and it has a lot of useful tips. The included practice songs for playing arpeggios are a good challenge and attainable after some ongoing practice. I find this book to be extremely useful. Most people don’t know about this book because they take one look at it and mistake it for the other Dummies book for absolute beginners. I have SO MANY ukulele books now (hal leonard lesson book 1/2, Ukulele Aerobics, Ukulele Primer, Fretboard Roadmaps, plus other song books). I have recommended this book to adult students who are looking for a useful practice guide and who want to go beyond basic strumming. Kids, though, with their limited attention spans and addiction to video games and watching “Friends” reruns, probably wouldn’t get as much out of it only because there’s quite a bit of reading material here. That’s if they are self-directed. Not to denigrate kids, I want to give them credit and say that they do quite well with group or individual ukulele instruction, especially if they are at least 9 or 10 years old. So, this book can be useful for kids if being guided by an instructor and the kids know the basics first.

This book is great if you’re a beginner player on the ukulele or more advanced. I’ve just bought a ukulele after being a guitar player for some years and needed some guidance and instructions and this book is perfect for my requirements.

This product turned up very well packaged and in pristine order. The book itself is a typical Dummies book, paperback, yellow and black of some 240 pages. It is primarily a book of techniques for ukulele and technical musical information. So a book of scales, strumming routines, finger picking systems, movable chords up and down the fret board… things like that. It uses the standard ukulele tuning so for soprano, concert and tenor ukes only. If you want a book about different Ukuleles, buying them, basic chords and tunings etc you need to get “Ukuleles for Dummies”. This book is for mastering techniques to become a better player with more mastery of the instrument. It also guides you to a site where you can download all the examples in this book and there is about 150 of them, so you know what you’re trying to achieve.
