    YOUR BEST FOOD FRIEND
I have had my Nutrition Almanac for over thirty years. This updated book gives you just about all you need to plan nutritious meals that help keep the whole family healthy and also address certain ill-health manifestations. The information is brief but very informative, and the food vitamin and mineral content indexes are terrific. For example: I know someone with a blood clotting problem in their legs. They are prescribed drugs for blood thinners; and then told if they fall and cut themselves, they might die due to loss of blood. Cauliflower contains a good portion of Vitamin K, the vitamin that assists to stop bleeding. And there is a myriad other references that can help you nutritionally. What I do is check my symptoms on the Internet; and from there chose the supplements and foods that should help me. Of course, I believe in doctors, but if you read the side-affects of almost all drugs, they are bad. So for myself, I have chosen to try and be completely prescription free – who knows, maybe I’m just cheap – but I don’t want to open a medicine cabinet full of costly pills that all have bad side-affects. So I refer to my Nutrition Almanac and the Internet and so far so good.

    A great reference book
I had one of the first editions back in the 80’s and in one of my moves around the country, it disappeared. I decided one day to check to see if there were subsequent editions and located this one. I like the book, there are lots of statistics on most any food one can think of so it gives you a concise analysis of any particular fruit, vegetable, grain, or meat. A great reference to have at you finger tips and the price is right too.

This book made my life in university much easier!
Well You know that feeling when you start your major and people start hitting you with those medical and disease names and you are like * Whats happening am not gonna survive this* ? This book will make your life easier! It include in details everything you want to know about vitamins/ Minerals and so on! But what I liked the most that its include from A-Z all the diseases you hear about you have no idea what they are!I really advise you if you are studying nutrition to do as me first buy a notebook and they write briefly about every disease and leave some space so when you know an additional informatiob u can write and you finish you have in your hand a notebook that summarize everything you should know.

    Getting used to it
I purchased the Nutrition Almanac, 2007 edition from Amazon.com. I bought a copy of the Nutrition Almanac over 30 years ago (1979 edition). I used it religiously over the last 30 years. It became so tattered that I finally bought a new one this year (2007 edition). Although the newer edition does have updated information in it, I am going to have to get used to the new layout. The older version was in a more bulleted type of paragraph format, making it easier to find relavent information, such as benefits of a nutrient, toxicity, and sources of the nutrient. The lump paragraph format makes it hard to find what I need. I am going to use a yellow highlighter to bold the food sources of the nutrients. What I do like much better, and the reason I rate the new version a 4-star, is that the nutrient listings for the various foods in the back of the book are much easier to read vertically, instead of horizontally like in the older version. The new Nutrition Almanac, with its bright colorful cover, looks much better than my old, tattered one. After I get used to the new format, I will probably love it as much as my old Almanac.

Nutrient Guide: Comprehensive, Yet Room for Clarification
This book truly captivated me with its comprehensive and meticulously detailed exploration of nutrients. Each nutrient is portrayed with an exquisite depth and accuracy that makes this work commendable. However, I discerned a minor inconsistency pertaining to the discussion of iron and iron deficiency. The authors commendably highlight legumes as a sterling source of iron. Yet, in a subsequent section, they argue that vegetables, which inherently include legumes, are not the most effective source of iron due to their lack of heme, the most absorbable form of iron. This appears to be a slight contradiction that could potentially confuse readers. Moreover, the discussion on iron deficiency appears somewhat oversimplified, as it exclusively refers to it as ‘iron deficiency anemia’. It’s worth noting that iron deficiency can manifest independently of anemia. Anemia is indeed a potential symptom, but it’s not synonymous with iron deficiency. This misconception is surprisingly common, even among medical practitioners, which is why I feel it’s crucial to highlight it here.Considering the book’s role as a reference guide, it should strive for the utmost accuracy in conveying such critical information. Despite these minor discrepancies, the book remains a valuable asset for anyone seeking to understand the intricate world of nutrients.

It’s not what I thought it would be.I probably won’t use it much as I already have books better set out with the health information I want. But for someone else it might be excellent.

Un de plus ! Chacun son avis sur les nutriments, celui-ci n’est pas essentiel et, qui plus est, n’est même pas traduit en francais !

I bought this book when I first decided to try and improve my health by exercise and changing the way I ate back to the way I used to eat as a much younger athletic man. This book has proved invaluable and has been a major contributor in helping me stay healthy while loosing more than 2 stones of useless weight. The health supplimentation field is a nightmare with hundreds of companies offering thousands of miricle pills and potions that suposedly do all manner of fantastic things to help you loose weight, gain muscle mass and strength quickly wioth no side effects. Most of the claims are either rubbish or vastly exagerated. The Nutrition Almanac is an easy to use reference guide to whats what and why when it comes to healthy eating.A must for all athletes or anyone who just wants to eat healthily.
