Fun book with a great message!
The illustrations in this book really pop, but even better, the message is on-point about embracing and understanding differences in people. It helps to show how our differences are things that should be celebrated and asks the readers to find differences in themselves. It’s written perfectly to the age group. Lovely book!

    A great read for children!
I’m a former teacher who definitely supports the ideas in KayJay’s book. So important to have children at an early age connect with each other in a caring and supportive way. The whole school experience can be so much better. Thank you KayJay for your work that so aptly expresses the positive attitudes children can develop towards each other in such a personal, emotional way. The images connected perfectly to the ideas and feelings expressed. A great read at home or in the classroom!

Helping Kids Appreciate Differences as Only Differences, Not Identities
A beautifully written book that helps children see that even though we may look different on the outside, there are a lot of ways we can still be the same. Knowing that it can be hurtful to be excluded for any number of external differences, this author offers a number of questions for readers to answer along with someone else to help each of them discover who the other person is on the inside—rather than the outside. Differences are only a piece of any person. Differences do not define anyone, but rather differences just make us unique. Beautiful, diverse illustrations of various colors and ethnicities fill the vibrant pages of this book. I think it would be impossible to walk away from this book without a greater appreciation for the myriad of beauty that surrounds us through the unique individuals whom we encounter.

I absolutely loved this book! The illustrations are stunning, and they truly bring the story to life. The interactive element, where it feels like the main character, Marnie, is talking directly to you, is brilliant and makes the story even more engaging. The way the book handles important themes like diversity, self-acceptance, and empathy is both heartwarming and impactful. It’s a must-read for kids and a fantastic tool for parents and teachers to start meaningful conversations.

Nothing about this book was incredibly compelling to me, so 4 stars instead of 5. It reminded me of the “A Boy Like You” series (maybe because the illustrations – which I think may have been AI – were a similar style), but that series is incredibly heartwarming. This book – while still good – fell a bit flat in comparison.

The reason I purchased this book was because it deals with diversity, and the author delivers it brilliantly. It’s positive, engaging, and extremely necessary nowadays. The problem is that, although beautiful, the images are AI-produced. That is the only reason I give it 4 stars.

This is a delightful book. It is cleverly written and engages readers with interactive questions like; What do you like to do?, What’s the scariest thing you’ve ever done? What’s your favourite joke? It teaches children important life lessons about values such as kindness, acceptance, empathy, tolerance and self esteem. I, as a grandfather reading to his grandchildren, found it captivating, and the grandchildren enjoyed it very much and we talked about it a lot after reading it.
