A Comprehensive Look at the Twin Towers’ Impact
In “What Were the Twin Towers,” Jim O’Connor provides readers with an engaging and informative exploration of one of America’s most iconic structures. The book chronicles the ambitious construction of the Twin Towers, highlighting their significance as a marvel of engineering and a symbol of economic vitality in New York City. O’Connor effectively captures the essence of what the towers represented to a generation, showcasing their role in shaping the city’s skyline and the lives of those who worked within their walls. The narrative takes a sobering turn as it addresses the tragic events of September 11, 2001, detailing the attacks that forever altered the nation’s landscape and psyche. Through a balanced approach, O’Connor honors the memory of the Twin Towers while providing context for their historical significance. This book serves as both an educational resource and a poignant reminder of the resilience and transformation that followed the towers’ destruction.

Very informative teenagers book on remembering the history of the original WTC.👍
I bought this book for myself. I’m going on 43 years old. This has important information, not only about the tragic events of 9/11/01, but also some the history of the Twin Towers and how they came to be built. It is important that the tragic events of 9/11 never be forgotten. The Twin Towers of The World Trade Center stood just shy of 30 years. Opening in the early 1970’s, I myself remembering seeing them back in the late 80’s when I was a kid, from the Statue Of Liberty on Liberty Island. Sadly, that one time would be the only time I would ever have to see them, before they were lost on September 11 2001. They dominated the Manhattan skyline until that time. Two 110 story towers, were the first thing your eyes caught when looking over at New York City. They were boxy, and some thought they were ugly. But I always loved to look at them… still do, in videos, books like this one and photographs.👍

Well Written, Age Appropriate History of The World Trade Center
My daughter, who is now an adult, visited the Twin Towers a number of times as a child, and had a very hard time with what happened in 2001. She was about 10 then and at her age it was an information over load. I think it is important for children today to know what the Twin Towers were and why they are an important piece of history, but the information has to be presented properly. The author of this book has done an awesome job of presenting the history of the towers, from dream to reality, along with the history of what happened to them in 2001. It is informative, but not overly graphic or sensationalized. And, he even includes information on the construction of the towers and how the builders overcame problems during construction. This is an excellent book that should be in every school library in the country and in the home library of any child that is curious about the towers and what happened to them on 9/11.

    Good
The book is good, very interesting and educating. But the one thing I dislike about the book is the beginning to the middle. I do not like how they talk about planning and thinking about the Twin Tours. That’s personally just my opinion and I know other people find it interesting.

    In-Depth, But Understandable, History
I read this out-loud with my 8 and 10 year-old children. It is very thorough and well-written with interesting facts both for someone who lived through the events of 9/11 and as “history” for my kids. The book starts from the beginning with the conception and building of the Twin Towers and only the last few chapters cover 9/11 and its aftermath. This may seem to trivialize it, but actually knowing the complete history of the buildings reinforced their importance and the significance of the attacks. The author handles 9/11 sensitively but the subject matter is still intense (I cried while reading it) so I’m glad I was there to answer the questions it raised for my kids. I am thankful there are books like these available-this one really brought history to life for my kids and was an amazing tool to help us remember on the anniversary of this tragedy.
