Read this book before going to the Alamo!
Excellent book to read before visiting the Alamo. Was perfect as a family read aloud for my 5, 9 and 11 year old before our vacation. I learned a lot, too! Kids were excited to visit after learning its history. Provides just the right amount of detail to give a wonderful overview without losing the kidsâ attention. Easy read with just 9 chapters-finished in less than a week. Even my 5 year old followed along well and was repeating things from the book on our trip. You will understand why every souvenir shop in San Antonio has a âCome and Take Itâ flag after reading this book.

It was great, I actually learned a ton as an adult
My 6 year old daughter visited the Alamo with her grandparents and came home asking ALOT of questions to which I didn’t have answers….so we snagged this book!It was great, I actually learned a ton as an adult. There are risqué topics…many of Texas’ founding fathers were alcoholics, slave owners, or had affairs on their wives. They didn’t harp on these topics but the book did not shy away from the truth about each person. I LOVED that. I think its really great for my kiddo to learn now that no one is perfect, even if they are heroes.I immediately bought another book in this series. It has been rare that my girl has expressed interest in non-fictional reading and she is pretty excited to pick up another one. History for the win!!!!

My son loved it.
My son is mildly obsessed with Davy Crockett so he was very eager to read this title. He loves these books so Iâm quick to order them whenever a title catches his attention. They are a very quick read but have served him so well for 2nd grade.

Love Everything About This Book. Great for kids
I read this with my 4 & 5 yr old. We all loved it (and I do not enjoy reading generally). It is an easy, quick read. We read a chapter each night (there are 9 chapters). We all looked forward to finding out what happened next. This is a great history lesson. It is honest about the situation without being overly graphic. I cried at the end. I would recommend this book and will likely buy others like it.

Great history books for Kids.
I have bought this for my second grader number one to have material for her to read. Second to try to foster a interest in History. There are several books in this series on various historical events and figures. This one deals with not just the battle of the alamo but also the war for Texas independence from mexico. It deals with a lot of the underlying conflict that led to the revolution, and the people that shaped the whole texas independence struggle. My daughter has loved reading it and look forward to getting through other books in this series with her.

Very good
The book talks about how the Americans wanted to move into the western part of the U.S. The Mexicans allowed it but then they wanted to take over the the western side too so they went into battle and they fought. The most famous battle was the battle of alamo. The U.S.took shelter at a church called the alamo the next day they were ambushed by lots of Mexican they were fighting and it lasted awhile. By the Mexicans took over and Santa Maria spared some of them and made them go back to their hometowns and brag about how they got defeated by the Mexicans.
