Was a child’s smart gift choice
I was not familiar with this series but a child at a local school asked for a “who was” or “what was” book as part of a Christmas child in need project at a local elementary school. The fact that a child wanted one of these books, something to read and learn from, impressed me, as did the content and engaging illustrations when I read them myself. Of course, Amazon had them and I bought a bunch for this youngster whom I wish I could hug and thank for likely growing up to make the world a smarter and better place.

Nice book for an 8 year old
Love these books. My son, who is 9 has been reading them for a little over a year now and this book is wonderful. I must say that this one is not one of his favorites. He is a history junkey, lol. He so far seems to love the Jackie Robinson, Teddy Roosevelt, Abraham Lincoln, Robert E Lee, What is the world series the best as a 8 and 9 year old.I also read these to him in the evenings and I really enjoy them as a 40 year old father. I have learned so much from them as well. Sometimes I read them before or after my son in order to have an educated discussion with him about the subject of the book. I really also get alot out of them as well.

He is at a reading level M (ReadingA-Z levels) and this book was at the perfect level for him
My 2nd grade son was given a monthly literacy project of reading a biography, writing a speech given in 1st person as if he was Wilbur Wright, and to dress the part for the speech. He is at a reading level M (ReadingA-Z levels) and this book was at the perfect level for him. It was well written in a way he could relate to. He enjoyed the simple pictures every few pages to guide him along with the reading. This book was a great introduction for us into the “Who Was/Were” book series and we will be buying more in the future.

I like the book. The information in the book is very good. But it is suitable for a child who can read by them self. I read it to my 3 year old and its good. But the pictures are not colorful. its all black and white.
