The adventure continues with explorations of famous places like the canals of Venice and the Great Wall of China. And hungry kids will love the section on Tastes Around the World, introducing delightful dishes like samosas and risotto.I highly recommend this book for parents and teachers of young children who are beginning to read. Mouth-watering descriptions of traditional foods around the world!
Through Jina’s experiences, Window to the World is an entertaining box set that exposes young readers to cultures around the world. In addition to exploring colorful celebrations and teaching how to say “hello” in several languages, each book includes entertaining activities like playing a Diwali card game and constructing a Christmas tree. Each nation is brought to life through the vibrant pictures of its landmarks and festivals, and my favorite part is the delectable descriptions and illustrations of its traditional cuisine around the world. The book idea is great. Unfortunately, the depictions are often clichéd, especially in the “Hello” part. For example, the children from Germany, France, or Greece are shown in outdated traditional clothing that no one has worn for centuries, while the boy from the USA wears modern “normal” clothes. Additionally, I would have liked it if a consistent illustration style had been maintained. I think the sections on “celebrations” and “places” are very well done, with interesting information presented in a child-friendly way and beautiful pictures. The book layout is also very appealing.

A really nice collection of books to help introduce young children to other cultures. The illustrations are cute and attractive and the language is kid friendly. A lot of information is included without being overwhelming.

I love that this collection was so diverse and inclusive. I only knocked it down a point because I felt like it could have gone just a step further in illustrating the various details. For example, if the holiday sections would have talked about what time of year and what season it was in that country that the holiday was celebrated, I feel like it would have rounded it out a bit more. For the places around the world, a map of the country marking the mentioned landmarks would have been great additional information.
