This book is worth every penny.
At age 54 I recently began doing yoga for the first time in my life. I have always exercised, but yoga is completely different for me. I purchased a few DVD’s which did not really explain in great detail important details for a beginning student, nor show how to adapt the poses for a beginner’s body (especially a middle aged person.) I found this book through my local library, and after reading it, came to Amazon and bought it. I love this book because 1) it explains ayurvedic principles clearly with great insight, 2)it shows the various poses in great detail, and 3) best of all, it explains how exactly to protect your body from injury by modifying the various poses a beginner may not be able to do. I have been frustrated in yoga class and with DVD’s when some of the poses done by the instructors hurt and I don’t know the way to modify them so they don’t. This book takes care of that! It is an invaluable resource for those who truly want a better understanding and want to keep doing yoga without injuring themselves in the process.

An Excellent Guide for Yoga Teachers and Practioners
After having read this book from the library, I knew I needed to own a copy for my reference. The book provides excellent guidelines as to how to sequence a yoga class or practice to balance excesses in any of the three doshas. The book reads easily and provides a good assessment for those who are interested in what their predominant dosha might be. There are separate asana descriptions and how the particular affects a dosha (e.g. Increases pitta), routines for a particular dosha depending on one’s level of proficiency in yoga (beginner, intermediate and advanced) and an explanation of the science of Ayurveda.

This book is nicely presented. It is also really good to read for an awareness of yoga practises affecting the doshas. It’s good to have if you practise yoga and know a bit about Ayurveda or even if you are studying Ayurveda or have an interest. I like to remain detached and not take everything that someone else writes in a book as truth and try things and make up my own mind, it’s a good book.

Concise and clear presentation for the beginner
As a beginner in practicing the sciene of Auyerveda and Yoga I found this book profoundly helpful. A clear concise presenation of the basics Auyerveda, how to build your own asana practice. Basics on the best dietary practices, etc. This is an excellent first book if you are just starting. Great detailed descriptons of how to perform each asana.

Puts everything into perspective!
What makes this book very usable is that it has large pictures! No 2x2inch squares that are hard to decipher! If you’re practicing Yoga and are interested in Ayurvedic healing principles, this book will put it all together for you. I now look at Ayurveda and Yoga in a whole different way. It’s a great book for reference on what postures you should be doing (or avoid) depending on your Ayurvedic constitution. It’s also great for looking up and refining postures I’m already doing in class. Great book!

Love this!
This is such a helpful book! Whether you’re new to ayurveda or a pro, this book is really interesting. It’s organized beautifully to really make sense too.

If you are just starting Yoga (get it right from the beginning), are a seasoned practitioner or teacher. This book has helped me figure out why and how I continued to struggle with some Yoga poses and parts of my Asana practice. Once you have figured out your dominant Dosha (instructions included) and how to work with it using Yoga, your health and practice will continue to soar – Yoga and Ayurveda compliment each other perfectly and the result is quickly realized. Would have loved to know this years ago Enjoy.
